AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Maine is getting its $20 million share of Philip Morris USA tobacco settlement money, which came into question as a result of a court case in Illinois, Attorney General G. Steven Rowe said.
At stake for Maine was about half of Philip Morris's $40 million payment to Maine as part of a 1998 tobacco settlement. Rowe said Monday he received assurances that the company was going to make its payment on schedule Tuesday.

Oh sure, AG, the crooked dealings against adult smokers shall continue on. Bet you sleep great at night now, too, don't you!
Our Chicken AG doesn't even have an email address. I guess he doesn't want the backlash! eh?
What burns me is: the Tobacco Company's fell to their knees in front of the Attorney General's, and once that money started pouring into the states, the lawmakers were overwhelmed over all that big money!
They gave some to the Boards of Health and then used most of it, as we all know, to balance their budgets, build big expensive golf courses, plant fancy gardens (yes, in southern Maine, a woman heads up the planting of gardens around town from the Tobacco Settlement Money!
And they were supposed to use the money for education and to pay for any sick smokers should there BE any! But the money in the hands of the Boards of Health is just putting more control, restrictions and higher taxes on adults who choose to smoke a legal product.
See why the lawmakers in the state won't BAN TOBACCO? heh! We all know why not and we all know what is going on with this money.
It's disgusting! She's the biggest RINO of them all!
Herself? The Somali's in Lewiston? God only knows.
She is stupid and socialist.
Is the economy so good in Maine that they don't need a tax cut?
Businesses are fleeing Maine in droves, so they are eroding what little tax base we had. Maine is the second highest taxed state per capita in the country with something like the third or fourth lowest income per capita.
It is almost a completely one party state down in Augusta and our two RINO senators are among the stupidist people you'd ever have the displeasure of meeting.
Strange how they never think of the air polution spewed by race tracks.
You got it! The tracks are dirty, dusty and full of fumes. I know! I worked at the one up here for over 10 years. Dirtiest job I ever had (at the Pit Gate), but I loved it!
But your right! MY GOD DON'T SMOKE! Breath ALL you want but MY GOD DON'T SMOKE. Nuts, isn't it!
And to think that the smokers in Maine are paying for this abuse through the taxes they pay on their cigarettes just pisses me off all the more.
Read this in my paper the other day.
I have to say what the hell is going on in Maine? Georgia Pacific just closed down their plant in Old Town Maine and transfered the operation to upstate New York in Plattsburgh
When New York is a more desirable location for buisness than your state you know something is very wrong.
