American Preservative and FRiends of the Canteen | Wednesday, December 31, 2002 | American Preservative and FRiends of the Canteen

Posted on 12/30/2002 10:17:34 PM PST by American Preservative

The hour is near
Time to face a New Year
A toast to good health, family, and FRiends dear
A wish for safety, prosperity, laughter, and love
And, many, many thanks! to those serving our Country
and, to the One above.

*******************************

OK, was that mushy? Was it cheesy? Yes! Heartfelt, too.....

And, speaking of "CHEESE" (after all....this is Free Republic : ))

You are cordially invited to the Canteen's
New Year's
: )

So guys and dollz it's time to boogie!

*******************************

HAPPY 2003!

Come on and party!

Please pick up your new CHEESY name tag for the ball HERE

(To "find" your new cheesy name, use the first letter of your first name for your first cheesy name. Use the first letter of your last name for the first part of your last cheesy name, or, your middle cheesy name, and, use the last letter of your last name for your cheesy last name. [Thanks LindaSOG. I tweaked the formula. : )]
For example: The name Hillary Clinton becomes Hereford Hop Curd Nokkelost.)

Hey, if that's too much, just pick a few cheese names and have fun! : )

*******************************

So, everyone LET'S CHEESE ROLL! LET'S CHEESE DIP! AND, LET'S HAVE A CHEESE BALL! : )

5. Bo Diddley

I heard this GREAT Bo Diddley song on the Michael Savage program.

You can hear it here - www.turnup-root.com

It's called, "We Ain't Scared of You"

(My computer has no sound, but, I'm assuming the song can be heard at the website for those with sound.)

Actually our cheese ball (s) we make two are in the frig chilling for tonight. One is onion, blue cheese and cheddar. The other is green peppers, onion, and cheddar. Both have some other mysterious substances included, but I am sworn to secrecy.

Anytime Cheese Ball
Chicken Cheese Ball
Blue Cheese Ball
Pineapple Cheese Ball
Pineapple Cheese Ball

Anytime Cheese Ball

2 8 oz pkg. of Philly Cream Cheese
1 lb shredded sharp cheese
2 Tbsp - 4 Tbsp white vinegar
1 lb processed cheese such as Velveeta or 1 sm. jar of Cheese Whiz
Garlic powder to taste

DO NOT MICROWAVE TO SOFTEN. Leave at room temp to soften.
Mix together, and roll into a ball, roll in nuts/cheese/plain Wrap in
plastic

~

Chicken Cheese Ball

10 oz can white meat chicken/chicken breast
1 pouch Original Ranch Dressing mix (the powder kind)
2-8 oz packages of cream cheese
(or 1/3 Less Fat or no NO FAT) - room temp
1 cup chopped pecan pieces - to roll the cheese ball in

Mix together in a bowl and form into a ball and roll in the pecan
pieces. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill until firm.

Blue Cheese Ball

8 oz. softened cream cheese
2 oz. Maytag blue cheese
sour cream or mayonnaise
1/3 cup pecans, chopped very fine

Mix cream cheese and blue cheese together. Add some sour cream or
mayonnaise to make it smoother and easier to spread. Chill, divide
into 2 small balls, and roll each ball in pecans.

Pineapple Cheese Ball

2 (8oz) pkg. cream cheese, softened (low fat did not turn out as well)
1 (8 1/2oz) can crushed pineapple, drained very well
2 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup finely chopped green pepper
2 Tbsp finely chopped onion
1 Tbsp seasoned salt

Beat cream cheese with fork until smooth. Gradually stir in pineapple,
1 cup pecans, green pepper, onion and salt; chill. Shape into ball;
roll in remaining nuts. Refrigerate until well chilled. Garnish with
pineapple slices, cherries and parsley. Makes about 40 appetizer
servings.

The green pepper gets liquid when you process it in the food
processor. I have to blot it with a paper towel. When I made the ball
with the low fat cream cheese I either did not drain the green pepper
and pineapple well or it was the cream cheese. Ever since I have used
full fat cream cheese and have not had a problem.

Pineapple Cheese Ball

2 (8oz) pkg cream cheese, softened
1 small can Dole crushed pineapple, drained
2 (1/4 cup) pkg pecan pieces
1 Tbsp green pepper
1 tsp onion
1 tsp seasoned salt

Combine all of the above with just 1 pkg of nuts, then roll all of
this in the other pkg of nuts. Best served with Ritz crackers.

Help From The Homefront

Thousands of San Diego-based sailors and Marines will spend the holidays in foreign waters aboard U.S. warships deployed in the Persian Gulf and the Western Pacific. NBC 7/39 has contacted all of the deployed ships and most have responded, saying they would love to hear from the folks back home during the holidays.

Fill in the form below. We will forward your message of support to our fighting men and women aboard the USS Shiloh, USS Mobile Bay,
USS Bunker Hill, USS Valley Forge, USS Higgins, USS Milius and USS Thach.

"This is from me to those that have not written yet, please write, use it,
tell about your family, your hobbies, how the weather is, what are you planning for the holidays.
Tell a funny thing that happened, send a joke anything. Tell about your pets and kids.
We miss home and it means a lot to hear from everyone."

From a US Marine's e-mail
