That is going way to far for sure. That is out of hand. I can see some public smoking restrictions, but not bans at all.
The only "true" future event I can see for smokers in the future will be that insurance companies no longer cover health issues related to smoking. I expect that within 10 years smokers will be on their own with those medical related bills. They will have to sell off their own assets for medical care of their cancers and other related heath problems.
Same eventually for obesity as well.

About time somebody does something to end this disgusting habit that is forced upon every non smoker in the world. Your turn is coming. Don't think it isn't.

Hey
Tazman70, when you get banned you are supposed to stay banned.
To: FSU_Nole
Did you recently register in Free Republic so you could come in here and bash decent Conservatives who choose to smoke?
Just a question.

About time somebody does something to end this disgusting habit that is forced upon every non smoker in the world. It is not FORCED on EVERY non-smoker in the world. Many non-smokers have no problem. There are many non-smoking venues all over the place so there is no force involved whatsoever. what is wrong with allowing the proprietor, based upon his and his customers wishes, making the choice as to his smoking policy. Why is it so necessary for you to pursue the government do this for you? Talk to the owner, get others who feel the same to do so as well. if enough customers want it the owners will likely go that way. Vote with your feet and your wallet.

AAh, the health nazi politically correct socially coercive FREEDOM machine swings into action again.
using lies, false stats, and a misguided sense of responsiblility combined with a near totalitarian desire to control people, they cite health to control us.
Of course, now people go outside inthe NYC winters to smoke. That's healthy? What about the super vent systems in buildings. They won't use them.
We have our own doofus, menino to follow in the lead of the control freaks. Funny, but FR sounds just like DU when it comes to this issue.
I'm avoiding NYC. Spend bucks for a meal and you can't even enjoy a smoke with your coffee and brandy.

I expect that within 10 years smokers will be on their own with those medical related bills. They will have to sell off their own assets for medical care of their cancers and other related heath problems. Same eventually for obesity as well. You'll never see that, because social engineering doesn't work that way.
You're supposed to be held financially accountable for your neighbor's personal health. That way, you'll support nanny state laws to control your neighbor.

I expect that within 10 years smokers will be on their own with those medical related bills. They will have to sell off their own assets for medical care of their cancers and other related heath problems. "The lifetime health cost for a smoking man is $72,700 and $94,700 for a smoking woman. For nonsmokers, the cost is $83,400 for a man; $111,000 for a woman.
"If people stopped smoking today, there would be a savings in health care costs, but only in the short term. Eventually, smoking cessation would lead to increased health care costs." --New England Journal of Medicine,1997;337:1052-7.
I think your talking about smokers who are on welfare. We have our own health insurance. No one is paying our way but us.

You want smokers rights taken away.
Think about what you enjoy in this life. Because it will be on the government's chopping block next.

What it means is that whatever the government deems is your "vice", they're going to regulate it, tax it, ban it, sue it, etc.
