O'Reilly: Bush Insider Claims Clinton Deal Torpedoed Pardongate

A Bush administration insider has privately leaked word that a deal was struck between Democratic congressional leaders and the Bush White House not to prosecute Bill and/or Hillary Clinton on an array of charges related to the Pardongate scandal, Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly claimed Friday on his nationally syndicated "Radio Factor" show.

"A very highly placed source - and I mean this guy knows what's going on in the Bush administration - told me about a month ago that when President Bush took office he had meetings with all of the Democratic leadership.... one on one meetings in the Oval Office," O'Reilly said.

"The Democratic leadership made it quite clear to Mr. Bush that he would not get any cooperation - zero - on the part of the Democrats in the Senate and in the House if he pursued any kind of a criminal investigation against Bill Clinton."

O'Reilly said that according to his source, "Basically they said look, if you embarrass us - by us we mean the Democratic Party - if you, Bush-Ashcroft, indict Clinton on bribery or go after Hillary or any of this - we're gonna shut you down. We're not gonna do anything. You're not going to get any (legislation) passed if four years."

The talk host's highly placed administration source said Democrat leaders then explained to Bush, "If you put this thing on the back track and just play the game the way we've always played it here in the Justice Department since Watergate, where the powerful protect each other - then we'll keep an open mind on your legislation."

O'Reilly never indicated who his source might be beyond describing him as "very highly placed."

On Thursday, U.S. Attorney for New York's Southern District James Comey, a Bush appointee, ended a key part of the probe into whether the Clintons traded pardons for political favors and campaign contributions.

And I hope that the Justice system has more important things to do if you are every in need of any justice.
You cheapen the very meaning of justice for all.
It disqusts me.

Unfortunately I've never had the honor of serving on jury duty. But the US is a nation of laws and citizens. When someone is accused of breaking the law, if the DA deems there is enough evidence to go through the expense of putting that person on trial, it will go forward. At that point, all the DA can do is make sure the evidence is as airtight as possible. Sometimes witnesses are not as forthcoming as the DA thought they would be. Sometimes their testimony is not very compelling to the jury. Sometimes the DA over-reaches and tries for a conviction on a charge for which there is not a clear case. For many reasons, cases which to an outsider look airtight don't end up that way when the jury goes behind closed doors and ponders the evidence WHICH THEY HAVE OBTAINED DURING THE TRIAL. And sometimes, as in the OJ case, you get jurors who are looking for political payback, so they won't convict someone who according to the evidence given in the trial seemed clearly guilty.

It can be a messy situation, but that's the way of 'Justice' in this country of free citizens. It is not a perfect system because it depends on humans, who make misakes. There are a lot of guilty folks walking the streets today because the Justice system failed in some way or the other. It shouldn't cheapen the system because of those mistakes, it should make people more interested in serving on jury duty when they are called so that they can be sure of at least one person who really cares that justice is done. Frankly I think it is a miracle that the system works as well as it does, and I hope that if I ever find myself caught up in it, there will be educated citizens who are serving on the jury because they care about it.

I don't believe this is true, and I think the story came from the
leader of the Axis of Whining Weasels,

Then you must believe the Clinton's did no wrong. Else what other reason can you give for no indictments? Only the justice department
can bring charges, and Bush is in charge of that.

I don't understand how this is critical of President Bush. If this is true, and I don't know if it is or not, it is certainly not the President who looks bad here.
I must say, this sounds like the blackmailing RATS to me, but if this is cooperating, I would hate to see them if they weren't.

Whether there actually was a "threat" or not, the result appears to have been the same.

Absolutely nothing was done about Bill and Hillary Clinton's crimes.

And if I had to guess, I'd go with O'Reilly's story.

As far as I am concerned this "A very highly placed source falls under the same category as "A Friend of a friend" in a hoax or Urban legend

Just the fact that this supposed leak is so hush hush, made me immediately suspicious! Folks in the Bush White House are VERY loyal, out of respect for their boss. That's why you HAVEN'T seen any leaking going on from the White House. Plenty has been going on down the Avenue at the Capitol, though.

Yes, and they prosecute criminals. They do don't they? Oh never mind.

The only president who was that infatuated with his personal poll numbers was Bubba. He hired pollsters before he made any decision, and even change policy in mid-step when the polls dropped on him.

If this administration was infatuated with polls, we'd have attacked an outhouse in Iraq by now with a 40 cruise missiles and called it quits to avoid further risk.

The wording alone of the 'quotes' from the dems is clearly fake. They look like they were written by a pulp fiction writer.

OK, assuming that this is true... since we clearly haven't seen 'his' laegislation passed, and we haven't seen any movcement on nominations... then evidently the rats didn't get any guarantees from him.

So you cant differentiate between terrorists and crooked politicians? No, can you? Is there a difference?
Do you take everything literally? No. But Klintoon is a terrorist. He let terrorist have free reign for eight years. His actions in the Balkans can only be described as terroristic.
You probably believe the fairy tale about one person, one vote too. Yes I do. Do you get two or does your vote not get counted because of your skin color?

No, I am not nuts,no AUSA is going to ignore evidence of a crime. And anyone who says they would, doesn't know squat about what it means to be a career prosecutor-these people are not political appointees and take their jobs very seriously. The whole scenario is ludicrous.

Federal prosecutors must have enough evidence to reasonably expect a conviction, before they can go to trial. Witnesses who have amnesia when it comes to the Clinton's, shredded and lost documents, vague answers and well covered tracks are not a sufficient basis for an indictment. If Bush were to have reached down into the Justice Dept and thwarted an investigation, the scandal would blow Watergate out of the water.File this with the cocaine addict stories.

No all roads lead to the NWO and Burger Builders and they must have their investments protected at all cost.

Oh, man, next you're gonna tell me these guys are in on it.

No way, didn't happen. Just for this reason that it would go public. Bush wouldn't dare allow himself to be compromised to this degree.

Some people and their pipe dreams.

Some people and their pipe dreams.

And it appears a fair number of people are willing to lap it right up. You can set your watch by this junk. Let the person who is making this outrageous claim step forward and allow himself to be identified. Then we'll see.

Well you got me pondering for a moment. :) The quo is atmospheric. And that along with the advent of something between a cold war and a hot war has made Bush something more akin to a sequoia rather than a shrub. The passage of the years will be required to begin to glean whether or not Bush with the benefit of hindsight constructively utilized this capital. I am too old to value as much as I once did instant gratification. That is a mixed blessing not doubt.

The situation is hopeless. Whatever was in those 800 FBI files has cost us our Republic. posted by BenLurkin

FBI files?... Poppycock! Just look at the drivel being spittlemouthed by such as Revel! It is we the people to blame! How discerning is the average FreeRepublic reader? Not very. Such idiocy as we read following the insights of MissMarple are clear indication that the seventy-thousand and counting list of Freepers is not the discerning cream of the crop! Only a small percentage is paying attention, and that mostly from the left-leaning mouth breathers. Know why?... Freeping is becoming a 'real thang'. There are real minds, doing the sovereign thing. Think about it.

For weeks on end, ChaseR posted the evidence of sinkWilly's perfidy with the Chinese; when a Catholic thread arose, Proud2bRC would patiently debate the naysayers; if a fool supporting murder on demand (abortion my the Democrat, Al Goulish so willingly flaunts) diened to post an apology for abortion on demand, Askel5 would systematically shred the faulty logic; Kristin and others have stood the barrackades, to freep the sycophancy of clintonism; Iron Jack awakens from the slumber of brilliancy ignored, to post regularly at FreeRepublic; and Alan Keyes has exchanged with freepers, albeit in at least two pseudonym incarnations of note ... FreeRepublic is! Yes, there are too many asleep at the helm of state; and yes, there is a sad lack of attention on the part of too many Americans, but FreeRepublic is the accidental grace of Jim Robinson, et al, vying on the scene for attention of the awakened few!

As a writer, have I not envied the sharp clarity of Iron Jack's occasional posts?... Have we not marveled at Askel5's patience with the serial killer apologists?... Does the debate among Howlin, Torie, and the Keyes supporters not stir us to thought? Could Jim Robinson have even guessed that his passion would blossom so fully?

Even MHG was involved with effecting the past presidential election. The lettters written to expose the absurdity of abortion on demand and partial birth infanticide were spread nationwide to local papers via Freepers! Possibly less than a hundred Freepers were actually influential in the last election, via their ability to network and effect public opinion.

When a poster of socialist bent shows up at FR (aka, a societal engineer in camo-democratic clothing), is it not predictable? Jim's child has come of age! Freeping is a real phenomenon, able to actually influence the yet non-somnambulent. Freep ON! We are _________ strong, and not to be trifled with! Is not the growing voice/prose of Luis Gonzalez a force to be reckoned with, the on-air power of the FreeRepublic alternate radio a source not easily ignored? Who can ignore Mercuria when she speak with such clarity? HAH! It is the age of such as FreeRepublic; Jim's baby has come of age!
