Conservative lawmakers and activists disappointed with President Bush's first 18 months in office are calling into question his tactics and strategy in advancing the conservative agenda.

"The president for the most part has been our guy," said House Majority Leader Dick Armey, Texas Republican and a prominent conservative on Capitol Hill. "A few times we disagree."

Yes, he did lose seats, but it wasn't because he was moderate, as your post suggested.Or that Bush will lose them as well by being moderate.

"Y'all cost too much to maintain. If you can't deliver votes, the GOP will find those who WILL. "

They found them. They're democrats.

They BROKE their asses in 1995 and 1998, and got the middle digit, upraised and extended. Y'all cost too much to maintain. If you can't deliver votes, the GOP will find those who WILL.

Ah! You are still online! Let me know when you have your supporting data.

Heh.  Dump the y'all.  I'm small 'l' libertarian.

And in order for the GOP to replace conservative
votes, they will become Democrats.  That is the
difference between a Republican and a conservative.
One has principles, the other will to power.

"If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that's what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it."

What 75% or 80% of legislation have Conservatives won under this administration?? Not words - but legislation or the repeal of legislation.

I think most of us understand that we wont get 'everything' - but we are seeing goverment growing by leaps. I never expected him to be perfect. But I didn't expect to see him veer this sharply to the left.

Laz--the ABC exit poll for 2000 gives a 14% "conservative Christian or 'religious right'" turnout figure; the same figure was 17% in 1996.

Amen. Sell-out. But at least he can say he was for a Palestinian state, CFR, massive increases in education spending and farm subsidies, a new government bureaucracy called Homeland Defense, steel tariffs, embryonic stem cell research, etc.

Do you consider yourself part of the conservative Christian political movement, also known as the religious right? Yes: 14% No: 83%

From: The ABC News Exit Poll

The 1996 figure was 17%.

Sticks and stones, Rip Van Winkle. There has never been a government program that was not thoroughly abused. I think a farmer selling his farm for a million, will like paying $250,000 in taxes rather than $500,000.

Given the pressure the EPA is putting on farmers, ranchers, lumber owners as we type, I'm sure they will be able to gain control of everything they want to gain control of in 20 years or less.

Go back to sleep, name callers bore me, and so far that is all you seem to be able to contribute.

Very good. Give me time to look these poll results over to make a determination as to their credibility and how they actually impacted the election -- and, more importantly, if it is safe for Bush to ignore Conservative voters.

But I won't be getting back to you until tomorrow, I have things I must do tonight.

"He hasn't done JACK in the wimply-named "War on Terror". I heard he's going to give compensation to the Guantanamo Bay detainees. Poor things!

Gimme some proof, instead of what you are your sources in the tavern said.

If you forgive Bush his domestic policy follies because of his WOT, you are very misguided.

I don't think so .

Bush has totally pussed out of the WOT.

TOTALLY, like wow, he's sent troops into battle and will do again shortly in Iraq.Man, what a wimp.

The Twin Towers, Pentagon, and Pennsylvania martyrs have in no way been avenged.

You avenge by winning the WAR, not playing a hyper John Wayne.

The very seat of our government was attacked by Saudi Arabia and Bush responds by having Moose Limbs over to pray at the White House (the one they missed on September 11), then entertains the Saudi Prince f@gs at the Double Wide Ranch. Sickening. Un-American.

Saudi Arabia declared war on the US on 9/11?

Bush is a wimply, unprincipled, dull-witted, cowardly, pinko, POS, POTUS.

Dull, dumb, feckless. And a pinko.Sure you don't mean Ted Kennedy?

Total embarrassment.

People all over the world are laughing at our bozo Prez, the one with nary a thought in his head.

You should hear the guys in my group, all of whom voted for him in 2000.

When is your group up for parole? Why would I care about their opinions?

Believe me, he is a one-term president

All I believe about you is that you are a moron.

14 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi nationals. Wonder why it is we're still coddling the Saudis?

Ooooo I see a flaw right off -- this is asking if they are part of the conservative Christian political movement.

I would answer "no" to that question. I am Conservative but not Christian. Furthermore, many Christians who are Conservative might not consider themselves part of that 'movement' but instead consider themselves strictly Conservatives, or independent of the movement (which is widely viewed as the Falwell Religious Right movement).

Do you have figures that prove the point that CONSERVATIVES -- not RELIGIOUS CONSERVATIVES -- are staying home?

However, these people self-identify as conservatives of the religious right. They dropped 3 whole percentage points--or about 4 million voters.

If anything, it actually understates the amount of hand-sitting.

Rove's estimate was of evangelicals. I'm assuming that meant the Christian Coalition type, and they tend to run conservative, IIRC. Rove's estimate might be off, but it does seem to trend with the facts we have.

Personally, I think the closeness of the race was also signifgantly caused by the DUI smear tried in the last week of the election. The conservatives who did stay home might have kept it from being close had half of them turned out, and some may have stayed home due to that revelation.

The fact is, a perception appears to exist among a VERY close presidential advisor that evangelical Christians, a key part ofthe GOP base, are not turning out in the numbers they are expected to, and Bush is trying to make up for that elsewhere.

What is going to be done about that perception? Unless it changes, Bush will continue to do what he has been doing.

No one seems to read my posts. I never said that a loss this fall could be attributable to Bush's moderation. I said that history is against Bush (only FDR rebuked the trend of losing seats his first midterm), and therefore the momentum of history can be blamed for the loss and not Bush's (supposed) moderation. Austin Willard Wright tried to twist the words of most around, too. I don't think that Reagan moderated himself and lost as a result of it. I just think he was a victim of history.
