March 16, 2002 -- A cell phone became a lifeline yesterday for a 14-year-old Brooklyn girl who was abducted off the subway, raped on a rooftop and held captive until cops dialed her number, figured out where she was, and rescued her.

A rapist/kidnapper who lets his victim conduct cell phone conversations with friends, parents and cops.

This story does not pass the smell test.

No. No state in the nation allows a minor to carry a FIREARM concealed, nor should they. I'm a firearms instructor, I'm also a high school teacher. TRUST ME, I see them everyday. None of them have the maturity to make a life and death decision like this and not get themselves or an innocent injured or killed. In any case, it would also behoove you to remember that the PARENTS are LIABLE for the TORTS of the child.

My daughter turned 21 four days ago. To celebrate the happy occasion, I made her the gift of her very own Ruger SP101 .357 magnum revolver (3"bbl) DAO, with custom strong side hip holster and a FL CCW. But I taught her to shoot when she was TEN. Although from that time to this, I would NEVER have asked her to make a life and death decision she might have to live with the rest of her life. Now, however, she's ready....having a bit of life experience being on her own at a university upstate from us.

No doubt about it...this was a miracle....the literal hand of God was upon this child.

He was a cretinous "honor student.' I suppose they'll run his junior high graduation picture.

Of course if she had a .38 in her purse she could have shot him and walked home.

And been arrested for violating the civil rights of yet another victim of the vast right-wing conspiracy.

"Lt. Thomas Casella immediately called the number and started asking her questions she could answer without betraying who was on the line.."

One smart cop! Chalk one up for the good guys!

I know they caught the guy, but has anyone check to see if Bill Clinton was in town?

Maybe he could be sued for providing example and inspiration to the perp.

You are assuming rationality from a class of people that rarely exhibit the same. Don't you ever watch that dumbest criminal show on TV? This is a mild case compared to some of the inbred stunts reported there.

One of these brainiacs in our town burglarized the home of a cop and stole checks. He could have tried to pass them anywhere and probably gotten away with it, but no, instead he decided to go to the convenient branch bank in the neighborhood where the cop was known personally. When the bank called the cops, guess *which* cop caught the call? That was poetic justice.

This story is the winner of a high school creative writing class competition. Either that, or the rapist is totally brainless. He let this girl keep a cell phone, receive multiple calls, and even let her talk. Come on folks, let's get smart.

On the other hand, thank God for incredibly dumb rapists, quick thinking cops, dedicated fathers, concerned friends, and most of all, may she recover and have lasting problems associated with this horrible event.

(rundy forgot the NOT in the previous post. Sorry all...)

The NY Daily News' story was essentialy the same except for this ...

After the 90-minute ordeal, the alleged attacker, Ali Williams, 24, was defiant.

"He looked right at the detectives and said, 'I'll get out. I always do,'" the source said.

Hmmm....

Felons have IQs between 90 and 100. The exceptions fall outside that range.

WJC immediately comes to mind.

Naw. Dad would have gotten a jury trial and at least 1 would have pinned a medal on him instead of convicting.

Not this guy.

In all honesty, I thought most criminals were in the 70-80 range. Isn't 100 +/- 10 considered average?

According to The Bell Curve the average IQ of convicts in American prisons is 83. This figure was arrived at through IQ tests of over 100,000 prisoners.
