FreeperDad Prayer Request
12/28/2001

Posted on 12/29/2001 12:16:18 AM PST by MississippiMan

I come to you, my fellow Freepers and Christians, asking for your earnest help. My young adult son is straying far from the path that we thought we had amply laid for him as he was being raised. His upbringing may not have been perfect, but it was sincere, always loving, church going, disciplined, and promoting of Christian principles.

His current behavior barely resembles the son I thought I knew. Womanizing, drinking, wild living, and numerous other things of a wayward life have his mother and me just about at the end of our ropes. We've both talked until we're blue in the face and it goes in one ear and out the other. Before you suggest that it's normal sowing of wild oats or that I'm being prudish, let me assure you that I'm anything but prudish. I've lived my share of time on the wrong side of the equation and I'm well aware of what exceeds the limits of normal behavior.

I ask for your help because I know that God does listen to His people who pray to Him. We both pray hard, but the prayers of more brothers and sisters in Christ can only help. I urgently ask you to consider helping us with earnest prayers that God will protect and guide my son and bring him back into the fold. If you're a parent, you can probably imagine how painful this is and how humbling an experience it is to admit that help like this is needed.

Thanks for reading and thanks for any prayer help you're willing to offer.

MM

Having done all, stand. The Bible also says that if you raise up a child in the way that he should go he will do so when he is old. It doesn't say that he won't make a moron out of himself in the mean time but that he WILL come back. Keep your prayers up and trust God.

Your son is in my prayers, just trust in the fact that you grew that tree straight and strong, and when this gale is past he will stand strong again. I know you will be there for him, broken heart and all. He is very lucky though he might not know it yet.

Heartfelt gratitude to all who have responded. I thank you for your prayers, your sharing of your own experiences, and for some great suggestions. I hadn't heard of Tough Love; anyone have contact info for that organization?

Prayers lifted up for you, your wife and your son right now. At our darkest hours, God is there with us and I just pray that he gives you both the strength to love your son through this situation and that your son has an open heart to hear what he needs to hear

Dear Miisissippi Brother, I join you and those in prayer for your son. i was the one being prayed for a generation ago. Saved by the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, yes. Did prayers matter, paticularly parents' prayers? I believe so. Hebrews 11 might help while you're waiting. May God reveal Himself to your son through His Son.

Billy Graham had a "lost son" who is now serving in his ministry. In fact, Billy Graham was a wild child untill his conversion. The thing is to not give up praying.

Dear brother and sister. I so full well understand where you are coming from. My husband and I also have a son who is very far from his roots and in the natural his life looks very hopeless. However, the scripture that God gave me several years ago that I still claim is this: Jeremiah 31:16 & 17 - Thus saith the Lord; Refrain they voice from weeping and thine eyes from tears; for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the Lord; and they sahll come again from the land of the enemy 17: And there is hope in thine end, saith the Lord, that they children shall come again to their own border." I too, would appreciate your prayers for my son in particular (his name is Mark) and my daughter, who is just cold to the things of the Lord but was once a spiritual dynamo. Love in Christ, Lynn

Have prayed for your son, and for you and your wife. You keep being consistent--it's that fact that will blaze in your son's mind, because you have the peace that passes all understanding. Our Lord is working out His will for him and for you. Hang in there. In the meantime, we'll help support you and the missus. You're among friends here.

Being of the "Woodstock" generation, I probably did everything possible to alienate my parents. Now my #2 son (big IQ guy) is paying me back. He is 16 and headed for college next year. Although he is not into drugs, he is into rebellion. My prayer for him is that he have a BUNCH OF KIDS so that he can finally understand how we love them in spite of everything. I will pray for your son, (please give us his first name), but I know that the Lord has a perfect plan for him, and that your love for him WILL WIN OUT.

As you admit, he's being just like Dad was at his age. That being said, keep praying yourself. I have ZERO doubt that I only survived without getting killed doing crazy things during that time in my life because of the prayers of my parents.

The prayers of the righteous WILL NOT return void.

I will add my prayers for your son and your family to the others here.
It sounds as though he was raised in a Christian home, therefore as the scripture promises, when he is older, he will not depart from that teaching.
