[history]
Like Britain in 1939, we're at war but not yet in it.
That was an interesting speech President Bush gave last night in Georgia. Its subject was homeland security, and in terms of content, style and tone it seemed to be, essentially, nothing new. And yet by the end and after reading it, I thought: He's telling us a great deal here.

As George W. Bush took the Oath of Office on the steps of the Capitol last January, his eyes filled with tears. And last night his voice broke, ever so slighly, when he talked of family.
This man has heart, soul and the desire to lead us back.
God bless George W. Bush.

The screws will tighten on Iraq when the time is right, no doubt about it.

I can't wait until Fridays when I get to read Peggy's latest article. I barely made it through her recent leave of absence, while she was working on her next book! I was so glad to have her words of wisdom back after the tragedy of the 9/11, to put into words what I was also feeling. She's without a doubt one of the greatest writers of our time!!
Please add me to the PNP (Peggy Noonan Ping) list!! Thanx

I'm a Peggy Noonan fan. Please add me to the list. The word that always springs to mind when I read one of her articles or watch her on television is "lovely."

I like Noonan but she's ... well she sorta reminds me of the Irish-American biddies of my childhood. (Think whacky. Think Novenas. Think JesusMaryandJoseph.)
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

22 well placed nukes could end this madness in 2 weeks.

In the middle of the speech Mr. Bush touched on ways to mobilize the interest and energy of our newly aroused country. Most significantly, he said he will ask state and local official "to create a modern civil-defense service," to help us win the war at home. Well done, hooray, and just in time.
That was about the best news I heard in last night's speech...very glad he said this.
I'm also very glad that Peggy Noonan is on our side...she's one very bright lady.

RD: Whoa! Thanks for the ping, good buddy! Peggy Noonan has written some excellent articles in the past. I deem this to be one of her CLASSICS! Didn't she write a lot of speeches for Ronald Reagan??? I think I'm correct there. DUBYA President Bush would not do a terrible thing by signing her up. That's no criticism of him or his staff, either, folks! It's high praise for Peggy!
To: MJY1288
George W. Bush has been underestimated and that is a good thing, because the mainstream media can not see past their hatred and their Socialist agenda to understand the fact that George W. Bush has a good grasp of the situation we face and he has a long range plan to protect us from what is inevitable if we keep our heads buried in the sand. I just occurred to me that if Osama his merry Taliband are getting their info from CNN and our other media 'bright lights', then they are underestimating Dubya also. I think that they will make their moves in order to impress those they perceive as the 'people' of America, as they see on CNN. In fact, the REAL people of America won't be moved by their protestations of innocence and their denunciations of the 'brutality' of America.

EXCELLENT insight by Peggy Noonan as usual. Thanks for the post. I'd have MISSED this otherwise I think! Didn't she write speeches for Ronald Reagan?

PS: I like YOUR picture of Peggy better than the scraggly one on the original article by WSJ.com Opinion Journal!
