ALBANY, N.Y. -- Groups representing New York state bar owners contend the statewide smoking ban has cost their industry about 2,000 jobs.
A study released Tuesday by the New York Nightlife Association and the Empire State Restaurant and Tavern Association said the ban that went into effect in July has also led to $28.5 million in lost wages and $37 million in lost gross state product. Affiliated businesses lost another 650 jobs and $56 million in wages and production, the study by Ridgewood Economic Associates said.

THE FACTS
the facts
IN OTHER NEWS: SUN RISES IN EAST.
Facts? Facts? What the hell do facts have to do with anything these days?
Nothing! (sarcasm off)
Thanks, Miss Lion. I'm sending this link to an obnoxiously anti-smoking pal of mine, but it still won't do any good.
And you can see for yourself that judith is lying again, twisting my words when she can perfectly well see for herself yada yada. Furthermore, anyone who smokes is undereducated and lower class, has no couth or culture, and is trying to poison their and everyone else's kids. Statistics show blah blah blah. /you know who.
I'm glad this is getting out. Those do gooder dummies don't think about economic damage of their policies.
Dave, who is compiling The Facts has worked very hard on this.
It probably won't, since they all have blinders on. But maybe it will hit home at some point in their lives.
For instance: their favorite hang-out closes due to the loss of revenue. They want no smoking, but I wonder how they will feel when their favorite place goes belly up!
I've got a whole page at Forces Maine of the business's that have gone out of business since 1999. When you have time, take a peek:
I was joshing. I haven't seen an anti poster yet who cared about facts unless they were facts that proved their theory, which is,"Smoking is the cause of all diseases known to man".
Oh I know what you mean!! And half of the locals in here won't even bother to click on the links. You can lead a horse to water but...............hehe! You know what I mean!
I thought Ronald Reagan caused all diseases known to man. Or if not him, Dubya. I wish these weenies would get their stories straight...
Well, where ARE all the non-smoking customers that haven't been able to go out in public places because of SMOKERS!? Non-smokers STILL staying home??? (Whiners.)
I've seen first hand restaurants who have had a massive growth in business by the smoking ban. Why? After their meals, smokers tend to chit chat while smoking, loitering an extra half hour at the table while spending nothing. With the ban, the turnover has doubled, the wait for tables is cut in half, and revenues are way up.
I went out with a smoking friend for lunch today, in one of the few nice restaurants that still have smoking. We figured we'd go once or twice more before the state ban comes into effect.
We usually go with a group of five or six and go to non-smoking restaurants but we decided to have our own little smoker lunch.
Six months from now there probably will be a few more restaurants and bars to add to Dave's list.
Sad,but I'll have more money in my pocket.
The main cause of death.....Living!!
The state ban outlaws smoking in restaurants and bars, Off-Track Betting parlors, bowling alleys and pool halls, company cars, enclosed parking lots and outdoors around the entrances to public buildings.
This is another little part of that article. COMPANY CARS?!!! Yeah that will be the day since RJR funishes my company car!! I have never seen such levels of paranoia, and that is all it is. No wonder Al-Quida figures they have us....shoot....people are scared to death of a little smoke. Think what they will do over something REALLY major.
Surely you didn't believe that garbage put out by the professional anti's, did you? Non-smokers aren't going out any more or less then they did before. And it's a pity, because they were supposed to hold up the revenue from the smokers not going. :(
