I'm an asthmatic and it now means I can go out and enjoy myself instead of worrying about an inconsiderate smoker.

Make sure you do go out and support the places where the people who smoked can't go anymore. Make sure you take all your non-smoking friends to make up for the loss of revenue the business will notice. Make sure your favorite place stays open!

As for me, I would much rather have the business owner and his patrons decide to have a smoking section or not, instead of Big Government.

"inconsiderate smoker?" That statement alone tells me what kind of person YOU are.

I guess I'm one of those undereducated, toothless, mullet-eating backwoods inbred hillbilly cretins. I'm just going to keep having my five cigarettes a day, down here in the Ozarks where they AIN'T no smokenazis.

You know, I'm sick and tried of people with nothing better to do than to try to mind my business. They should go out and get real jobs, maybe even contribute something useful to society. Guess that's too much like real work for these lazy, inept morons.

We got some local piss ants in here today. I don't think I will hang around. It's hot here and I'm not about to let these idiots ruin my day!

This is nothing that a large dose of civil disobediance can't cure. These smoking bans are issued as mandate upon the people, they are not voted on. They specifically effect private property owners, something the founders would abhor.

This is nothing that a large dose of civil disobediance can't cure.

There is no large dose of civil disobeiance for a reason. The smokers know they are in the wrong.

These smoking bans are issued as mandate upon the people, they are not voted on.

Please tell the earlier posters this. They are railing against "democracy" and the "tyranny of the majority".

We are not a democracy. Did you think we were?

Seek help.

Please help me understand. Some are saying it is a 'tyranny of the majority' and others are saying it is a few ignoring the voice of the majority.

Please help me understand which it is?

I think it is an example of representative government as our founding father designed.

"inconsiderate smoker?" That statement alone tells me what kind of person YOU are.

Have you ever tried to breathe when a rude, drunken idiot exhales smoke directly into your face from a foot or two away...and then laughs while you grab for your inhaler and continues to blow smoke at you while you try to get medicine into your lungs? Your right to smoke does not trump my right to breathe.

I did not mean this to say that all smokers are inconsiderate, and indeed I've known a number of smokers who are very considerate. I can see how it may have been misinterpreted, I should have made it more clear that I was referring to those smokers who do act like jerks when people with lung problems experience distress. I've had it happen on more than one occasion, as well.

I made it a point to patronize non-smoking businesses before, but sometimes it was unavoidable to go into an establishment that allowed it. I made it very clear in the post you reacted so strongly to that I liked the smoking ban here for purely selfish reasons, didn't I? I do think that smoking bans in bars and clubs are an unacceptable government intrusion in private businesses that cater to adults. I'd rather the business make that decision.
