[history]
A bench warrant was issued yesterday for the owner of one Toledo tavern as the city continues to have growing pains enforcing its ban on smoking inside bars, restaurants, and other public places.
Toledo Municipal Court Judge C. Allen McConnell issued the warrant after William Delaney, owner of Delaney

After May 18, I'll be able to marry a fag, or smoke one in private but will not be albe to smoke a fag in a bar.

These store owners should DEMAND a trial by jury and take a chance with a jury of their smoking or nonsmoking peers.

This is just crazy! Good luck to this tavern owner. I can't imagine a tavern being in business without smoking!
They are not alone. Maine forced the restaurants to go smoke-free in 1999. Then, the 1st of January of this year they forced the bars/taverns and sports clubs to go smoke free. I haven't been out to eat since then.

How the government can tell private business how to run their business is beyond me. Better yet, that private business owners roll over for it is even further beyond me. Where is our Boston Tea Party???

The junkies will clean up robbing convenience stores while "the man" is busy with the little stuff.

Hi Shelion and Freepers,
I live about a half mile from that bar. This is an industrial working class town. We are not lawyers. The rich people around here want all the working class people to stop smoking. They do not want to stop. So they are doing these things. What a goal to desire to achieve. Where do you want to put your money if you were betting on this. I have a URL on a related article.

I live in Toledo. This town is a pathetic joke. The streets are in disrepair, the schools are a mess, unemployment is well above the national average and real estate values are dropping in the midst of a real estae bubble everywhere else in America.
The city is a textbook case of the dangers of giving organized labor a say in the political process. The city and county government are ruled by democrat party stooges who kowtow to the union bosses that make certain that enough of their beer swilling chuckleheads sober up on election day to give the donkeys their majority.
We pay a disproportionately large city income tax, very high property taxes and (I think) the largest sales tax in the state. Breathing is about the only activity one can engage in that doesn't require some sort of fee based license or permit.
I hate this place with an undying passion. We are a small slice of East Germany right in the middle of the good ol USA. My wife and I will be scooting across the border into SE Michigan ASAP. Virtually everyone else who can read already has...

Any state as prone to electing Democrats as Michigan is will itself be unlivable soon enough. You'd be better off heading east, towards Cleveland. There's absolutely no talk of banning smoking in bars around here (so far).

City police and health and environmental service inspectors were kept waiting until the bar owner, Jim Avolt, arrived.Next time, dynamic entry by the Health Swat Team, complete with flash bangs.

Let's see, tobacco and alcohol are still LEGAL substances for adults to consume and use..... They started the last prohibition with a Tax Stamp, this one starts with public bans for health reasons. WOD is going to grow some in the next decade.
