New rules for taking communion issued

While the changes might seem minor, the first revisions the Vatican has made to the mass since 1975 will affect every Roman Catholic who walks forward for communion.

Before they take the bread and wine, they'll have to bow, as a sign of reverence for the Eucharist, the bread and wine Roman Catholics believe becomes the actual body and blood of Christ during the mass.

Catholics also must be quieter during the mass, sitting meditatively in silence before it begins, after the homily, and after they receive communion instead of chatting with neighbors, or whispering to the kids.

The Padre has recently declared that the time just before Mass will in the future be used to teach the assembly the "songs" to be sung at that Mass.
I am not holding my breath on the "standing and greeting each other" issue.

By illicit I mean songs such as: "See Us Lord, About Your Altar."(OCP Today’s Missal Music Issue) A nice hymn from the Protestant Tradition. The third verse, however, reads:
“Once were seen the blood and water: Now is seen but bread and wine; Once in human form he (sic) suffered, Now his (sic) form is but a sign.”

This does'nt exactly support Catholic belief in the Real Presence; but then again, I am not sure Charles Wesley believed in the Real Presence.

In most (but not all) of the Nervous Disorder Masses that I have seen, the extended throng of EMs is like a club of very special people of the extremely liberal and self-important type who like to be seen up in the sanctuary by those little people out there. They are the same people who populate the all-important lay committees, and that insignificant priest had better not prevent them from coming up after consecration to flaunt their honors before the crowd.

In fact, it explicitly and specifically denies the Real Presence. It's outright heretical. It should be banned from use in Catholic worship. lex orandi, lex credendi.

Put it this way: If you truly believed that God was making Himself physically Present in your midst would you stand or fall to your knees?

Remember that when an angel fully manifests himself to a human, the human most often falls to the ground in worship, thinking the angel is God. But the eucharist is not an angel, it is infinitely more than that. Those who take themselves more importantly than the eucharist will be more than shocked and ashamed when they come to see Him face to face.

When I heard them I almost burst into tears. It was like hearing the voice of an old friend whom you thought was dead. Apparently the liturgical nazis decided for us that the bells were meaningless and got rid of them.
We also kneel from the Sanctus to the great amen. A few years ago our priest put a note in the bulletin that we are to sit after Communion. The majority of the people in our parish still kneel. It just feels like a more appropriate response after you receive Our Lord in the Eucharist.

And don't forget David Haas. Between him and Marty Haugen I have all but given up participating in singing. I do however sing the occaisional traditional Catholic hymn. We get a token one of those every three or four months or so.

Our pastor, when he took over from the previous pastor, within a week or two had put a stop to the practice of EEMs lining up behind the altar at the Agnus Dei, which had gone on for quite a while.

We still have 'em, but now they stand outside the sanctuary, until after they have received, and even then they only stand on the edge/step.

It would be nice if we could. Here in the west traditional Masses are frequently hundreds of miles round trip. Our choice is basically his way or the highway which for us is not an option, at least on a regular basis.
We are stuck either until we get a more traditional padre or until the Mass becomes invalid or so sacriligious that it would violate our conscience to attend.

The only changes I have noticed lately are that the priests are wearing more traditional vestments

Actually, one of my big pet peeves, and Proulx does this all the time, is taking a familiar melody from the Latin hymns and putting English words to it that have nothing to do with the original piece.

I could have written your posting. Some folks say rosarys during that pop-slop (Haas, Haugen etc.)

Just FYI on the MO of a lot of music directors (pinging ninenot 'cause he is a music director

OCP has a periodical that is a companion to their missalettes and music issues with programming suggestions. A lot of music directors just program according to what's in it (the script) without giving it a second thought. Used to drive me insane before I quit cantoring.

I was taught to kneel after Holy Communion and then to sit once the Tabernacle door was closed by the priest (now the EEMs).

I read somewhere that OCP gives out so many "freebies" and planning material that once you start subscribing it is almost impossible to stop as they do all the work for you. Kind of like tentacles.

Wish parishes just had hardcover song hymnals and subscribed to "Magnificat" (superior to any missal I've seen). Seems like it'd be cheaper in the long run.
