A leader in the Lutheran church was recently arrested and accused of producing child pornography in Springfield, Illinois.
The suspect in the case was identified as 54-year-old Michael William Mohr, who is president of the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri announced January 29.
He was charged by complaint in St. Louis with a single count of producing child pornography.
The attorney’s office detailed the case against him:
The affidavit in support of the complaint alleges that a court-approved search of Mohr’s home in Springfield found storage devices that contained videos of three juveniles in the bathroom. A search of a residence used by Mohr in Vandalia uncovered a hidden camera disguised as a wall clock and one disguised as a Bluetooth speaker, the affidavit says. The investigation began after one of the juveniles told the Vandalia Police Department that he discovered a camera disguised as an electronic device charger in a hotel bathroom. The discovery happened the morning after the juvenile awoke to discover Mohr standing above him and masturbating, believing the victim was asleep, the affidavit says. The juvenile was in shock and acted like he was still asleep, the affidavit says.
Regarding the hotel bathroom, Fox 2 reported Mohr was on a church trip with a group when they decided to stay at the hotel due to the winter weather conditions. The outlet said Mohr reportedly stayed in a room at the site with two juveniles.

Predators like to hide in “respectable” jobs so people will think “he’d never do something like that!”
so they CAN arrest for such things IF they want to.
This looks to be a good example of the differences that exist between the “liberal” Lutherans and the real Lutherans. What More did was completely against the teachings of the Holy Scriptures, completely contrary to the teachings that flow from the Lutheran Confessions (to be found in the Book of Concord of 1577), and completely contrary to the teachings of all faithful Lutherans. This man and his actions will not be either defended or excused in any way.
And while fiathful Lutherans will pray that he confess his sins and return to the grace of God in Christ, they will also fully support whatever penalty will be imposed upon him by the civil authorities as being just and right. He has committed a serious crime. This is the difference between the Two Kingdoms, the kingdom of grace - the right hand of God - and the kingdom of power - the left hand of God. This teaching of the Bible is often spoken of by non-Lutherans as the separation between Church and State.
Missouri Synod, that hurts. That’s one of two (Wisc) conservative synods in the Lutheran church. The rest are lost.
Yes. I think Missouri Synod us tge only conservative Lutheran church in Michigan. The ELCA certainly isn’t conservative.
Over 40 different Lutheran denominations currently exist in North America. However, most North American Lutherans belong to one of the three largest denominations, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, or the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.[citation needed]
Exactly.
Why is this not surprising? Were there other adult monitors on the trip? Did they notice anything suspicious? Did the kids think it was weird that Mohr wanted to stay in a room with them? These child predators are cunning and patient. They wait for the right moment - like a church trip with little or no adult supervision - to strike.
ELS is conservative but not quite orthodox (BOC1580).
Given the numbers, it was only a matter of time.
Which, apparently, has come.
If we’re following the Bible. Can’t we tie a millstone around his neck and drop him in the ocean?
Is that the task of the ministry Christ instituted? Check your Bible.

Be rooted in Christ!
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
What I share with you today weighs heavily on me and upon our whole church. In fact, it’s devastating. I’m in shock at the injury of innocent victims, and the shame brought upon our faithful people. Jesus have mercy upon us! This afternoon, the Rev. Michael Mohr appeared before a federal magistrate to hear the charges against him. He did not contest the government’s motion to detain him until trial, and a grand jury hearing is expected. The press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Missouri, states that hidden camera devices were found at his residence and an additional accusation of lewd behavior with a minor was part of the criminal complaint.
As the press release noted, an accusation does not constitute proof of guilt. Our church body has an ecclesiastical process for conduct unbecoming a minister of the Gospel. These processes will be followed. The duties of the District President for the Central Illinois District have been assumed by the First Vice President Michael Burdick.
If these allegations prove true, they are an unfathomable betrayal of the responsibility and trust placed in the servants of the church by Christ and His people. To commit sexual violence or exploitation against others, especially children, is an unconscionable sin and crime. This has no place in the church. Our Lord has strong words for all who would lead His little ones to stumble (Matt. 18:6). The LCMS will fully cooperate with civil authorities on this matter.
We know that such sins and crimes, as alleged, inflict intense pain and suffering on victims. Christ alone provides the healing, and we turn to Him. I commend those who, in any circumstance, courageously shed light on these crimes and sins. If you or a loved one have something to report in regard to this matter, please contact the FBI St. Louis Office at 314-589-2500.
The LCMS Central Illinois District has established a special resource to receive reports from any individual who may have experienced harm by Michael Mohr: 877-276-1740 or email at districtassistance@cidlcms.org. These channels are being monitored by Ms. Rebekah Wendling, a mental health professional.
There are other pastoral matters to address as this process plays out before us, and I’ll do so.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too” (2 Cor. 1:3–5).
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Pastor Matthew C. Harrison
President of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
A new offering from "Lutheran Family Services?"
My church is unfortunately in the ELCA and I agree, it is lost. Our church is SMALL and fortunately, the synod doesn’t even know we exist, most likely. They do nothing for us and we ask nothing of them. We don’t adhere to what they want. I love my church and I know what my faith is. The ELCA IN/KY synod does not represent me.
Heard this. No trees in Illinois?
He needs to die,
