Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Almighty Father,
We Come before You
With Praise and Thanksgiving in Our Hearts.
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God Of Abraham!
You Are The Source,
The Creator,
The Ancient of Days,
The Rock of All Ages,
Everlasting Father,
The One Eternal Master of the Universe!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

Yesterday, I was at a loss for words. Today I have too many of them. I'll try to organize my thoughts into my favorite thing: Parables.

1. An Atheist Explains "Hallelujah": The song "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, has had a strange trajectory. Cohen, a Jewish Rabbi as well as a Mystic and a Songwriter, spent five years writing this song, and it has over 150 verses. (Only four are sung when the song is presented). The song tells the Story of King David, and his adulterous affair with Bathsheba. A lot of people sing this song, but have no idea about the context.

The opening line is "I heard there was a Secret Chord, that David played and it pleased the Lord". Then, the lyrics outline the actual Chord Progression of the song. (The 4th, the 5th, the Minor Fall, the Major Lift), but none of those chords are "secret". In fact they are the same chords you find in millions of songs, including "Stand By Me", and "Wagon Wheel". The "Secret" Chord is the "Secondary Dominant", based on the Third Degree of the Scale. Normally, this is a minor chord (sad, unresolved sounding), but here it is a Major Chord (happy, triumphant sounding). This substitution is a musical in-joke, but is also a spiritual statement. The musician in this Video claims to be "an unapologetic atheist", yet he can't escape the fact that God's Hand of Providence is evident in the Story that goes with the song.

David's actions were evil, resulting in the murder of his Friend and Top General, and the death of his first child with Bathsheba.

The second baby they had was Solomon, who was considered the wisest ruler that ever lived, and who built the Temple of God in Jerusalem. Bathsheba is even mentioned in The Genealogy of Jesus, in the First Chapter of Matthew.

The "atheist" even goes further, citing a pun in English (chord/cord) and quotes Proverbs (The Three-Strand Cord can't be broken). For all you musicians out there, what makes a Chord a chord? THREE Notes played together as one.

2. What You Guys Meant for Evil: I can't imagine selling my own brother into slavery, but that's what Joseph's brothers did to him. This event led to years of servitude, false accusations, prison time, and, finally, the saving of a nation from famine. If Joseph's brothers hadn't sold him, they would have murdered him instead. Yet, in the end Joseph forgave them saying "What you had meant for evil, God meant for Good."

3. A few Millimeters: Because Donald Trump turned his head to look at an immigration chart on a large TV monitor, a bullet that was meant for his brain took off the top of his ear. He doesn't have particularly large ears, nor do they stick out that much, otherwise you KNOW that would be a prominent feature in political cartoons. Trajectory charts and slo-mo videos are circulating now showing how close it really was. Tragically, an Innocent Man was killed by another bullet, as he threw himself over his two daughters to save them. The shooter was EVIL, and, if he wasn't alone in his actions, everyone allied with him is evil too.

Yet, Donald Trump has stated that his life was spared by God. Most people who look at those videos would be inclined to agree. While the trajectory of the bullet didn't change, the trajectory of Trump's head DID. Time alone will reveal what this latest Act of Providence will reveal.

4. Providence: A dear friend sent me a Book called "Providence" by Bible Teacher John Piper. Why I don't agree with Piper on some other issues, I am totally on board with his view of Providence. He goes through the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation, citing stories and examples of God's Foreknowledge and Providence, just like my three little stories today. Even the atheist's interpretation of "Hallelujah" admits that actions taken centuries before affect things in the future and are evidence of God.

To those who would deny it, I say

Just as Denial ain't just a river in Egypt,

"Providence" ain't just a city in Rhode Island."
