“It has been twenty years since release of the movie, The Passion of the Christ”
Could have done without that.

It must be emphasized that the main storyline presented Jesus as having been relentlessly pursued by an evil cabal of Jews, headed by the high priest Caiaphas, who finally blackmailed a weak-kneed Pilate into putting Jesus to death. Last time I checked, that "storyline" was literal Gospel Truth ... and followed upon three years' worth of Jesus' conflict with the Jewish religious authorities of his time. Pilate, as a Roman pagan, didn't really care until someone rather spuriously portrayed Jesus as being in conflict with Caesar.

“But the [Holy] Spirit explicitly and unmistakably declares that in later times some will turn away from the faith, paying attention instead to deceitful and seductive spirits and doctrines of demons.” - 1 Tim. 4:1

When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, and he went back inside the palace. “Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer. “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don't you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?” Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you (Sanhedrin) is guilty of a greater sin.”- John 19:9-11

The movie’s script was in Aramaic and Latin. Interestingly, the Latin parts were not in the Classical Latin of Jesus’ day but in Liturgical Latin, which emerged during the Middle Ages.

It [the film script] is one of the most troublesome texts, relative to anti-Semitic potential, that any of us had seen in 25 years. It must be emphasized that the main storyline presented Jesus as having been relentlessly pursued by an evil cabal of Jews, headed by the high priest Caiaphas, who finally blackmailed a weak-kneed Pilate into putting Jesus to death. This is precisely what happened.

It was last year before I could watch Mel’s movie...urged on by a pastor.
The First Crack of the Whip almost made me ill and I’d stop it.
I’ll probably never watch it again.

And we assure you of this: the faithful are not antisemitic, but they are rightly anti-USCCB gaslighting!

I hear you. I have the movie as well and cannot bring myself to watch it again.
And when I left the theater, I remember thinking that what actually really happened was far worse than what the movie portrayed.

I remember when it came out…and I said to my (super Catholic) family (most who went to see it), “I cannot appreciate more what Christ did for me…so I don’t need to see it”.

I fail to see what their argument is with Gibson’s film. He adhered to the Gospels and the blame went around exactly as written. I see it as Jesus, speaking too much truth with the sheer aura of his faith, was put down by the controlling factions fearful of his overwhelming surety (and following) making them insecure of their power.
