Where Was Preaching About Sin and Repentance?

The prophets preached it, John the Baptism preached it, Jesus preached it , the disciples preached it, and the apostles preached it.

What will happen to you if you preach it?

hint, nobody will like you or worse......................

So with that said, is the Asbury “revival” a real revival?

I have asked the question repeatedly, what should we be seeing and hearing?

I don’t know if Asbury is a “true” revival, but this declaration that it is not contains enough faulty reasoning, innuendo, misapplication of scripture, and assumptions to destroy its credibility. Watching the live stream, I didn’t see anything that disturbed me as a Christian. As for the absence of the salvation message, the author himself states that he doesn’t know for sure that it wasn’t preached. Did Jesus preach a salvation message everywhere he went? Did the apostles? Did the disciples? Did every church in America? Oh, I know - the Christian ones did. Lots of 1:1 ministry was going on at the altar during these meetings. If someone wasn’t saved, I’d be willing to assume that the message of salvation was given to them. I saw several statements regarding the numbers of people who gave their life to the Lord during these meetings.

The last sentence is the weakest argument. “Trinity” and “monotheism” isn’t in the Bible either, but the concept is there.

But revival has a clear pattern. Asbury isn’t it. If the Spirit of God came down, that self-proclaiming homosexual Elijah on the Asbury worship team would have become unglued (as well as everyone else), for sin and REPENTED.

Then look up the doctrine of the New Apostolic Revolution (NAR), and its links with Asbury and associated speakers. It is more demonic than Mormons and JWs....because they hide their associations in darkness (John 1).

The student maintains the “revival” wasn’t planned. But it’s worth noting that Asbury University is part of what is known as the revivalist movement—a group of Charismatic Christians who consistently attempt to produce revivals.

so, a man made revival.

But remember God is in everything. He may be speaking to a small remnant in the group, planting seeds. If this isn’t real, then a few might ask the question, where is the real God?

It is our job to follow-up this thing with REAL DISCIPLESHIP.

Now we have the question, What is real discipleship?

We can’t give what we don’t have.

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables”

Yep. Some folks lust for that which feeds their contrarian natures.

By their fruits you shall know them, and most fruit needs time to ripen. We shall see.

I say just watch and see how it plays out. In the words of Gamaliel from Acts, “if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; 39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God! So they took his advice”

I haven’t seen any videos from asbury. However, with the new Jesus Revolution movie, I’ve been thinking about how the mood was among young people my age who came to Christ in the late 1970’s.

Most of the gang I hung with came from rough or completely not religious backgrounds. I wasn’t one of them but came from a very nominal catholic family.

We were new believers with what many would call an immature faith. Yet, people were getting saved right and left.

Many have kept the faith, at least two went into full time ministry. The ones who came up in church were fired up.

Years later I don’t see that same fire in the church. Most of my contemporaries do a great job playing church and calling it preaching the gospel.

I kind of long for the days of our “ immature faith.”

In fact, one former student who was at the chapel this week told me he rarely, if ever, heard a clear presentation of the gospel at the school.

Is that the speakers fault; or the hearers??

That Judas fella that hung around with Jesus didn't seem to get the message either.

Whoever has ears, let them hear.”

10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

“Though seeing, they do not see;
    though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:

“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
    you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
    they hardly hear with their ears,
    and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
    hear with their ears,
    understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’[a]

16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
