[Catholic Caucus] New of new cruelty in @archchicago from @CardinalBCupich

A note from a reader…

Since you have posted about Cardinal Cupich’s TLM restrictions, I thought you should know that permission for 3 parishes (St. Mary of Perpetual Help, St. John Vianney, and St. Odilo) have all been denied. The only other TLM that is offered in the archdiocese by a diocesan priest is the St James at Sag Bridge Mission. I do not know if they have been permitted to continue.

This only leaves St John Cantius, St Peter’s (staffed by the Canons), and the Shrine of Christ the King.

People are sad, angry, and hurt. Please pray for us in Chicago.

Square miles… number of people… distance between places… considerations of schedule.

Such cruelty, for the sake of retaining favor.

What comes to mind…

“But for Wales?”

In the meantime, I understand that a group of the viciously treated faithful prayed the Rosary on the steps of Holy Name Catholic this morning.

The person who sent that note added:

There are also many unanswered questions regarding the Archdiocese’s failure to identify, punish and remove predator priests from ministry at the very same time that faithful priests are harshly treated with threats, intimidation and unjust removal from parishes where they have strong support from the people.

Most of you who read this are not in Chicago.  Many of you might not be personally interested in attending Holy Mass in the Vetus Ordo.  But surely you can recognize the unreasonable and harsh treatment of the people in Chicago, the disdain from their chief pastor.  You might not be there, but that doesn’t mean you are not connected to this war against Catholic identity.   You need to act because, whether the war is proximate or not, it is personal for you as well as for them.

ACTION ITEM! Be a “Custos Traditionis”! Join an association of prayer for the reversal of “Traditionis custodes”.

I’ll ask the same question I’ve posted before on this subject:

With the archdiocese of Chicago as small (geographically) as it is, why don’t these faithful Catholics just go to Mass in a neighboring diocese where the TLM is still offered?

Alternatively, why not just attend one of the TLM Masses in the archdiocese of Chicago that isn’t offered by a diocesan priest?

Frankencardinal Cupcake's prohibitions also applies to non-diocesan priests, e.g. the Canons Regular.

Cupich stated no TLM on the first Sunday of the month or during the Triduum. The Institute of Christ the King's U.S. HQ is in the South Side of Chicago, where they have been raising millions to restore an old, beautiful church that was badly damaged by fire. It is a crime to put them through this.

MANY, MANY Chicagoans do not own an automobile. I lived in Chicago for three years during college without one. Even going across the City without a car can take the better part of a day depending on where you are going. (combination of bus, IC, and train)

Maybe I misunderstood this item from the article?

This only leaves St John Cantius, St Peter’s (staffed by the Canons), and the Shrine of Christ the King.

They must offer the Bugnini Mess on the first Sunday of each month as well as the Triduum and Pentecost Sunday.

1. Maybe I'm missing something, but everything I've seen from the Institute of Christ the King seems to suggest that nothing is changing for them even in the Archdiocese of Chicago.

2. If any TLM faithful in Chicago don't own a car, this would be a marvelous opportunity for their fellow Catholics to carpool and get everyone to Mass on Sunday. I mean, really -- is this the biggest challenge the TLM community is facing in getting to Mass? LOL.

This was my first thought.

The only guys I knew with cars in college in Chicago were a Jewish fellow and a non-practicer who was raised Presbyterian.

The last time I spent a day in Chicago with a car I wound up paying $60 in meter and parking garage fees . . . on a SUNDAY.

I lived for 15 years in the Rockford diocese (eons better than Chicago), and getting to the downtown Rockford TLM Church from the Chicago coast will take the better part of two hours each way with a car. More if traffic is heavy for any reason. It is not like these Masses are on the Cook County border. Rockford is over 90 miles away, and you best not try flying at 85 mph on I-90. BTW, I hope you are right about the Institute of Christ the King. They tend to keep quiet about these things and they are not always great about updating their website.

It should not be a challenge to get to a traditional Mass and it's not "LOL".

My mother drove elderly folks to and from Mass every Sunday for years. If you asked her about it today she'd barely even remember it.

Get a grip, dude. If this is the most difficult cross you have to bear, then the TLM faithful include the kind of simpering misfits that I'd never have believed existed in their ranks.

Ebb,
Did the Institute of Christ the King in Chicago ever finish their remodel after the fire? I went to the basement chapel they were using a few years ago- quite small, would be hard to fit even 70-80 people in there.

Did it ever occur to you that many people who attend the TLM are young couples with large families that have little or no room in their vehicles to offer others rides?

Or do you realize how much time it takes to get a family or six or eight children dressed and ready for an 8:00 am Mass and still run around time picking up others?

Regardless, your “LOL” comment was insulting to those who struggle to get to a TLM.

Fortunately, I don't live in Cupcake's archdiocese, let alone the state of Illinois. But I did find this:
