Members of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Brentwood, other women religious and laypeople attended a rally in support of For the People Act July 26 at the Sisters of St. Joseph motherhouse in Brentwood.
Following the event, a letter signed by 3,685 religious sisters from various congregations across the nation urging Congress to pass the measure was hand-delivered to the Long Island office of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
“As Catholic women religious, we see and affirm the dignity of every person,” stated the letter, which also was addressed to President Joe Biden. “Knowing that all people are made in the likeness of God, we cannot tolerate practices or policies that suppress voters’ ability to participate fully in our democracy,” especially people of color in in the United States.
“Every voice — every vote — is sacred. The Senate’s recent failure to pass S. 1, For the People Act, rejects this holy truth,” it said.
Saying “our democracy is in crisis,” the sisters said that “immediately after” the 2020 election, during which Black, Latinx, Native American, Asian American and Pacific Islander women “made their voices heard in record numbers” — despite the pandemic and “partisan obstacles” — Republican state legislators began writing and passing “new laws to suppress the vote.”
The sisters also pointed to “insurrectionists” who “mounted a violent attack on our democracy” by rioting outside and inside the U.S. Capitol Jan. 6 while Congress met to certify the 2020 election results.
Since then, they said, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and other members of Congress “have only increased their opposition to the For the People Act.” On June 22, in 50-50 vote, the Senate failed to end debate on the bill to bring it to a vote on the Senate floor.

3,700 isn’t really a lot of people, this hardly even seems noteworthy.
What BS propaganda is this?
These nuns cant seem to get off their butts for abortion - but they’ll happily parade around for Democrat talking points?
Religion is a just a prop to democrats.
And these “religious women” are democrats and props.
And most likely are proaborts, given their democrat liberal bent. So they are not concerned about every persons’ life.
These sisters are too naive/dumb to realize that the misnamed ‘For the People Act’ will usher in a permanent far-left government.
And far-left governments aren’t particularly nice to religious folks.
“Every voice — every vote — is sacred. The Senate’s recent failure to pass S. 1, For the People Act, rejects this holy truth,”
Follow the money
Many of these religious orders survive on grants. Give them money, and they will agitate for the cause.
Invoke God to support Godless heathens and their attempts to collapse even further our Republic. Very ignorant people within this group of females.
Sisters mum on all the Burning, Looting and Murdering that took place during the past year.
And EVERY ONE of these pro-abortion, pro-lesbian democrat talking points are repeated verbatim by these self-called Catholic “religious women” ?
The leaders need to be ex-communicated, but with today’s pope?
My Grandfather went through the Bolshevik revolution and I spent many hours on his knee listening to his recollections.
He told me when they got to his farm, took all their food and livestock they were shouting “For the people”
Current dem slogan. Thank you Kammy.
My suspicion is most of the “nuns” are lesbos.
“Knowing that all people are made in the likeness of God, we cannot tolerate practices or policies that suppress voters’ ability to participate fully in our democracy,”
Lying in God’s service? They should reflect on that.
Anything passing through the House or Senate that has the word Act in it is corrupt as a London sewer.
Do any of these “sisters” wear a habit or are they all old, short haired lesbians?...asking for a friend.
Poor misguided women. They ought to read the bill they are backing.
They know they need the non-citizen vote.
Catholic groups are heavily involved in the illegal alien inundation.
Average age, 83. Some of them even know what state they’re in.
I just looked up a picture of them. They are solidly in the second category.
