Ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick charged with molesting teen boy in 1974

Ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick — the former archbishop of Washington, DC, who was kicked out of the priesthood over sex abuse allegations — has been charged with molesting a teenage boy in Massachusetts in the 1970s.

The charges filed Wednesday make McCarrick, 91, the highest-ranking Roman Catholic official in the US to face criminal raps in the clergy sex abuse scandal, according to the Boston Globe.

The predatory priest is accused of groping a 16-year-old boy’s genitals on June 8, 1974, during the wedding reception of the teen’s brother at Wellesley College.

McCarrick allegedly told the boy that he “needed to go to confession” and led him into a room, where he proceeded to assault him while “saying prayers to make me feel holy,” the teen told police.

The investigation into McCarrick began in January after the alleged victim’s attorney, Mitchell Garabedian, wrote letters to the Norfolk and Middlesex district attorneys.

“I would say that Christianity has outlived it’s usefulness. Time to relegate superstition to the dustbin of history and move on.”

You obviously do not know of what you speak, on many levels.

Jesus was not a Communist. There were wealthy people who were not condemned and poor people who were condemned.

It was based on the judging of their hearts, for which He knew.

My thought exactly Dilbert! I happen to agree with SixGun, but this is a heavily Christian Zionist site. Posters have to keep this in mind . . .

Yes, some clerics within the Church are terrible sinners. They will pay the price for their actions, and the Church as a whole will suffer the consequences. We are all responsible for our sins, and Catholics can have their sins forgiven through the Sacraments.

Why would someone allow sinners (influenced by the devil) to affect their relationship with God?

However, those that leave the Catholic Church will face the loss of their salvation. How does leaving the Catholic faith help one gain Heaven?

The Catholic Church founded by Jesus and He assured us that it will exist until the end of the age. The Sacraments were established by Christ that we need for our salvation. Baptism, Confirmation, Confession (Reconciliation) forgiveness of our sins, Eucharist (Jesus dwelling within us), Matrimony and Anointing of the Sick.

I want the graces from God that come with the Sacraments. Even when the clergy are serious sinners, they are acting for Jesus and the graces still flow to us.

Most likely, yes.
Just recall that tsunami of #Me-2 lawsuits a few years ago.

The Catholic Church is OK — it’s sinners like McCarrick that give us a bad name.

IOW, you can’t say all Lutherans are bad and the Lutheran Church is doomed because of one sinner.

Likewise for the Catholic Church, founded by Christ, BTW.

When was your church founded and by which man or woman?

I feel no sympathy for the church anymore. They brought this upon themselves with their infiltration by pedophiles and acceptance of many evil things.

Are crime social or individual? To blame the entire Catholic Church for the crimes of individuals is no different than Critical Race Theory which blames all whites for the crimes of few.

Christianity is still alive, and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it.

I have read that JPII dismissed allegations of sexual sins bc in communist Poland the government used to make fake allegations against priests. He thought it was more of the same.

Imagine how it would be today if the Catholics as an organization had had the cojones to turn these pedos over to the police instead of covering them up and allowing them to continue on. The cover-up is worse than the crime. Probably wouldn’t have lost so much face and wouldn’t be facing so many lawsuits and investigations.

But, they never learn.

Sorry to intrude on your reply thread here, and I have always had a fascination with the history and traditions of the Roman catholic church - and mean NO disrespect to you at all - but it was MOST CERTAINLY NOT "founded by Christ". Next to the Mormon faith, Catholicism departs from scripture in significantly huge ways. This is basic new testament Christianity 101! I'll never understand how Catholics don't understand that and why they don't question these post-Christ man made nonsensical and obviously non-scriptural traditions.

Where have you been? Anyone displaying the smallest hint of abusive behavior to adult or child is turned over to the police instantly. It’s so extreme that 2 bishops and a cardinal have been wrongly accused and persecuted. The new system is working. Notice all these lawsuits are for crimes of the 19th or sometimes even 18th century.
