Trudeau Says Pope Francis Should Apologize on Canadian Soil

TORONTO (AP) — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday he has urged Pope Francis to come to Canada to apologize for church-run boarding schools where hundreds of unmarked graves have been found, and he said Canadians are “horrified and ashamed” by their government’s longtime policy of forcing Indigenous children to attend such schools.

Indigenous leaders said this week that 600 or more remains were discovered at the Marieval Indian Residential School, which operated from 1899 to 1997 in the province of Saskatchewan. Last month, some 215 remains were reported at a similar school in British Columbia.

From the 19th century until the 1970s, more than 150,000 Indigenous children were forced to attend state-funded Christian schools, most run by Roman Catholic missionary congregations, in a campaign to assimilate them into Canadian society.

Indigenous leaders have called for Pope Francis to apologize — a demand echoed again Friday by Trudeau, who said the pope should visit Canada to do it.

I am not a fan of the current Pope, but this is disgusting for Trudeau to be saying this, as Catholic churches are burning across Canada.

Normally, I would think it rather presumptuous, bordering on arrogant for a Head of State to ‘demand’ an appearance from His Holy See, but we are talking about Pope Francis here.
This Pope has presented himself as a Leftist Tool for hire, thus he gets treated like one.

In reading the article I completely agree an apology was an order...but it appears to be the same thing they've apologized for before repeatedly, including Prime Minister Stephen Harper over a decade ago. “Canadians across the country are waking up to something that quite frankly that Indigenous communities have long known,” Trudeau said. It's something Canadians have long known as well by this point.

Hey! Numbnuts! It was racist Canadian government policies that took indigenous children from their parents and paid church organizations to care for them.

I’m confused...
In most of American, European, and Canadian history, graveyards were associated with church properties...
Why is this all such a big deal?
Did the churches murder these people...

I guess the canadians are burning all the abortion centers as well...

We are talking 75 years. I wonder during that period, which included the Spanish Flu and who knows what other calamities, how many children at the school died of natural causes despite receiving adequate care. I also wonder what life expectancy during that period was like for Indian / Inuit... children living at home. Notice how the articles do explicitly blame the schools for the deaths - they just leave the implication hanging out there.

What does the Pope need to apologize for? Something that happened more than 100 years ago?

FU Trudeau. And F all the people who think it’s up to any living person to apologize for what happened a century ago. None of the people who did it were alive. None of the abused are alive.

I despise both of them, horrible socialist evil human beings.

If I could, I would Thunderdome them both against each other and the winner would stay in there til he lost.

This is just virtue signalling and social power.

If you apologize, you’ve just said socialy they are more powerful than you.

These are minority people. They cant be both helpless victim and strong and better than us at the same time. Independent yet demanding reparations.

Should we go after muslims for the many, many masive attacks on europe and the west since the 700s and beyond?

Coulnt believe any apology anyone thanks to muslim taqiyaa.

And maybe that’s why Trudeau is saying it.

I am not a fan of Bergoglio either, but I am pretty sure he was not even alive when these alleged killings occurred.

Or what? Is Trudeau going to send a sternly written letter? He is in no position to tell the Pope what to do.

They actually didn’t discover any bodies. I wouldn’t find it all that strange if the schools did have to bury the bodies of children who died of the various diseases from a time before antibiotics but as of right now...there is literally no evidence of mass graves.

Maybe Trudeau ought to find out how many diseases swept through that area where so many died they had no time to dig individual graves.
