DES MOINES — Citing “overwhelming” incidents of abuse and "extensive" cover-up that spanned decades, Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller issued a report Wednesday detailing 50 complaints his office received about allegations of sexual impropriety by Catholic clergy, non-clergy or spiritual leaders — including 17 victims who had not previously come forward to report abuse to authorities.

This is news?

How about all the dead kiddos in Canada? Recently exposed, that might be considered news.

The CC is a completely corrupted organization and has been for a very long time....

Pope Francis will condemn this AG for being too rigid and then promote the accused priests to plum jobs in the Vatican, as he tends to do.

Some researcher did a study over a decade ago that said Catholic clergy actually had less of this than other religions.

Since Catholicism has a hierarchical structure, it's more attractive to sue for lawyers. You get to sue the whole organization, not just an individual synagogue or church.

Evidence has shown that the rates of abuse in public schools and Protestant churches is about the the same as in Catholic parishes.

But what hasn’t been shown in other places is the institutional protection for abusers. Public school teachers who abuse get fired and jailed, not quietly moved to another school. It’s those crimes that has the church itself in trouble.

YEP. This may be the report you refer to. The author (Charol Shakeshaft) also said elsewhere that the rate of abuse in public schools could be 100X that of Catholic Priests.

Lawyers always look for “deep pockets” to sue.

Lots more money when suing a Catholic diocese than an independent stand alone church.

That’s a cop out....it’s well known sexual abuse by catholic clergy is common and has been for decades and decades. The gay community and pedophiles knows this very well. They rely on the catholic members denying or making it less than what it is.

“It’s fine that hundred of Catholic priests sodomized little boys and girls and then had their crimes covered up by the church, and that this went on for generations.” - several people on this thread

The CC lost on this issue when the first pedophile priest was covered up for. They should have turned him into the authorities.

The cover up ends up being worse than the crime. It enabled pedophiles to operate with relative impunity, knowing that the Church would cover up for them. Now a lot of them are going to prison.

And just think, if they had been able to delay this for another few years pedophilia would have become legal. It is coming.

It’s just as prevalent across all schools and denominations so then the RCC should get a pass? Noted. The flip side to that thinking then is that Christian clergy as a whole are corrupted hypocritical perverts that no one wants to deal with.

Do you speak English? I will translate it into your language. Show me where I said Catholics should get a pass? I never said anyone should get a pass. Show me where I said that?

So, you think everyone except the RCC should get a pass?

The fact that the RCC is a giant organization which can be sued is a good thing. It cannot and will not police itself therefore the only redress victims have is to sue it. Year after, crime after crime, keeping its perverted corruption in the news as much as possible.

You know that they are “cancelling” (the new buzzword) Canada Day celebrations because they found the graves of native in residential schools buried somewhere.

I told my husband that this is ridiculous.

I said, Okay, what if we came across the graves of Indians we killed? Yes, it’s sad, but not worth canceling The Fourth of July.

Leftist loonyism prevails up here.
