Cardinal: “Ramadan Is Everyone’s Holiday”

Muslims in Burkina Faso celebrated Eid El Fitr on 13 May, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

They gathered in the capital Ouagadougou at the Place de Nation for prayer.

Despite the Ascension which was celebrated on the same day, Cardinal Philipe Ouédraogo, 76, attended the Eid El Fitr prayer, thus showing the “solidarity” of the Church to the Muslim community, Burkina24.com (May 13) writes.

"We are happy to express our best wishes to our Muslim brothers and sisters," Ouédraogo said. For him, "what belongs to the pond belongs to the cayman" (meaning: your joy is our joy). With these words, the Cardinal expressed believes “that Ramadan is the feast of everyone.”

“We are children of the same house," Ouédraogo said.

Not really. Ramadan is when the Muslims fast all day and get really temperamental. Eid al Fitr is the last day of Ramadan and then they all party - unless they got themselves all martyred during the cranky part.

We Christians aren't involved in their practices.

Sure. Why not. I don’t have a problem with that.

I spent some time in rural Egyptian towns in my youth. Also in Jordan and a few other places.

In Egypt, there was a little corner shop that had, on the bottom shelf, a very large bag of what looked to me like Fruit Roll Up. Apricot. Unlike the American Fruit Roll Up this one was 5 or 6 times larger. I had the munchies (hey, it was Egypt! and I was still fairly young) so I bought it. And ate it. A little more bland than a Fruit Roll Up, but good enough for Egypt where you had to eat Pizza with a knife to bat the flies away.

A few days later a local I had been friendly with came to me and asked “just curious, why did you buy that”. I explained, it looked like a Fruit Roll Up, an American snack. He said “Ah, we were all curious (I guess the townsfolk all gossiped about what the tourists were doing)” and then proceeded to explain they used that for Ramadan. They don’t eat during the day, but at night they cook and one of the dishes includes melting that rolled up pressed fruit thingy into a stew.

We understood each other, then went to the hookah bar shared some tea and smoked a peace pipe together. For my experience, others may have different experience, but the legendary Arab Hospitality is a real thing.

Does the cardinal pay his jizya tax to his Muslim overlords?

I can't the local imam saying "Easter is everyone's holiday" or "Christmas is everyone's holiday".

Where is the Pope on this?

Idolatry in the Temple

8 In the sixth year, in the sixth month on the fifth day, while I was sitting in my house and the elders of Judah were sitting before me, the hand of the Sovereign Lord came on me there. 2 I looked, and I saw a figure like that of a man.[a] From what appeared to be his waist down he was like fire, and from there up his appearance was as bright as glowing metal. 3 He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. The Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and in visions of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood. 4 And there before me was the glory of the God of Israel, as in the vision I had seen in the plain.

5 Then he said to me, “Son of man, look toward the north.” So I looked, and in the entrance north of the gate of the altar I saw this idol of jealousy.

6 And he said to me, “Son of man, do you see what they are doing—the utterly detestable things the Israelites are doing here, things that will drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see things that are even more detestable.”

7 Then he brought me to the entrance to the court. I looked, and I saw a hole in the wall. 8 He said to me, “Son of man, now dig into the wall.” So I dug into the wall and saw a doorway there.

9 And he said to me, “Go in and see the wicked and detestable things they are doing here.” 10 So I went in and looked, and I saw portrayed all over the walls all kinds of crawling things and unclean animals and all the idols of Israel. 11 In front of them stood seventy elders of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan was standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising.

12 He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, ‘The Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land.’” 13 Again, he said, “You will see them doing things that are even more detestable.”

14 Then he brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and I saw women sitting there, mourning the god Tammuz. 15 He said to me, “Do you see this, son of man? You will see things that are even more detestable than this.”

16 He then brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east.

17 He said to me, “Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial matter for the people of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the land with violence and continually arouse my anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose! 18 Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them.”
Ezekiel 8

Matthew 6:16 And when you fast, be not as the hypocrites, sad. For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.

Ramadan is all about showing off how pious one is by appearing to fast in public. The truth is that many Muslims will sleep during the day and gorge themselves right after sunset and right before sunrise. It is gluttony disguised as holiness

What part of "I AM the way, the truth and the life. NO MAN comes to the father except throught ME." - doesn't this cardinal understand?

The man fails to understand and believe what is fundamental to a Christian, i.e., that Jesus is Lord, Christ (Messiah) and God. The man's ignorance and blindness is beyond the pale.

Like many denominations, the Roman Catholic church is in real trouble with some cardinals, bishops and priests embracing Islam, homosexuality, socialism and communism. Nevertheless, none of this apostacy is a surprise to Christ. The gates of hell will not prevail against His church. Bank on it!

Dear Cardinal Philippe -

Eid is not my holiday. I leave it to the moon-god worshippers.
