If you're converting, we need 60 days' notice … or else

Under a so-called "freedom of religion" ordinance, individuals leaving the Hindu faith in yet another state in India will lead to persecution of Christians.

Nine out of 28 states in India have adopted anti-conversion laws, the latest Madhya Pradesh, which is located in the central part of the country and has a population of more than 75 million residents – the fifth largest in India. Approximately 90% of the state's population is Hindu; less than 0.3% are Christian.

William Stark of International Christian Concern explains that the recently enacted anti-conversion law in Madhya Pradesh requires people who convert to Christianity, for example, to notify the government 60 days in advance; it requires the same notification from the person doing the converting.

The law also outlaws forced conversations – but the intent, according to Stark, is to stop conversions to Christianity. He tells One News Now that the new law fuels the flames of Hindu nationalists.

"Essentially all the Hindu radical needs to do is show up at a church service, claim that they suspect forced religious conversions taking place there, beat the pastor – and the police will accept that justification and allow them to have impunity for attacking these religious minority communities," he summarizes.

Those being converted and their pastor can be punished for violating the law, says Stark.

Hindu religion is quite oppressive toward lover castes. If you born into one of those, you pretty much sentenced to life in misery.
Or you convert to Christianity or for that matter to Muslim, they will treat you like a human.
However the high castes are not very happy loosing people they used to exploit to other religions.

They're not trying to convert Christians into Hindus here, and apparently attempts to convert Hindus into Christians is an issue in India. We have enough problems of our own to worry about - I can't get worked up about what Indians choose to do in India.

FWIW, I don't think real Hindus (distinct from peripheral cult groups) believe in converting people to Hinduism. Part of their belief system is that you have to be virtuous to merit being reincarnated as a Hindu, and converting someone not born a Hindu to Hinduism is sort of cheating the process.

But they aren't going to be very tolerant of Hindus leaving Hinduism, for obvious reasons.

My grown and, like her old man, conservative daughter stopped by today, January 20, 2021.

As we sought to comfort one another, she mentioned that she stopped en-route for gas and related this small, but highly revealing, human vignette

Another patron, a man of Indian heritage, studied the conservative, patriotic messages that emblazon the back of her car. As he read each one, he slowly nodded his head and grimaced slightly.

Kim noted his reaction and asked him what he thought. He paused...then remarked that he and his family came here from India in 2018 to escape the frequent turmoil and economic distress there.

He then asked Kim:“WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN HERE NOW?”

Like the rest of us, she had no answer.

My answer to that question is “WE HAVE NOWHERE TO HIDE” NOW.

They were tolerant, but now they see it as a political force - that people who become Christians vote differently and not the BJP/RSS line
