Guardian journalist claims Christian forgiveness and redemption are ‘code for conversion therapy’

A writer for The Guardian newspaper has labelled Christian teaching on forgiveness and redemption as “insidious” and “a dog-whistle for conversion therapy”.

Fred McConnell, a woman who lives as a man, referenced the Ashers ‘gay cake’ case among concerns over a local church’s stance on LGBT issues.

The comments came as LGBT activist and General Synod member Jayne Ozanne launched a multi-faith campaign attacking biblical sexual ethics.

Biblical teaching McConnell, who failed in a bid to be listed as ‘father’ on her child’s birth certificate last year, looked into the church’s beliefs after “hearing a rumour about a sermon being given” on “Love the sinner, hate the sin.”

As a result, McConnell said: “I knew I would only ever be truly welcome if I accepted this insidious talk of ‘forgiveness’ and ‘redemption’, which I would not be alone in hearing as a dog-whistle for conversion therapy”.

Earlier this week, The Ozanne Foundation launched a multi-faith declaration to affirm and celebrate LGBT practice, including a call to ban “all attempts to change, suppress or erase a person’s sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression”.

Sinful desires Earlier this year the Foundation urged the Prime Minister to introduce a law covering “the full range of religious practices”, including outlawing calls to sexual abstinence. It also called for the law to prevent trans people who regret changing sex getting help to detransition.

The Foundation’s Director, Jayne Ozanne, alongside former evangelical Steve Chalke, urged the Government to take action against any prayer, private conversation and preaching which does not affirm homosexual or transgender lifestyles.

Both Chalke and Ozanne have criticised churches for teaching LGBT people that their desires “are ‘sinful’”. Ozanne called it a “harmful practice” that ‘can’t be allowed to continue’.

SNow, let me get this straight. Some guy in England wants everyone to think that the forgiveness and redemption offered by the Lord Yeshua is somehow a bad and evil thing?

The twisted logic to come to this conclusion is so amazingly… I don’t even have words for it. Some people just love to listen to satan.

All I needed to know:

“That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.

Romans 1:26‭-‬27 NLT

One of the enemy’s favorite tools is to sow the seeds of confusion. This mess is straight out of hell....and I mean that literally.

A few years back on some FB discussion I read the comment of one of the internet atheists and decided to check out his page. On it, he had a post that said, “I prefer to be on my knees before some hot guy than before an unjust and hateful god.”

I think that sexual sin is one of main sources for the rejection of God, and therefore is a big deal. I think a lot of these people know they are under judgment, but it would be too much to repent. Now, having said that, I would also say that is also true for any strong, compelling inclination that causes us to sin.

Both Chalke and Ozanne have criticised churches for teaching LGBT people that their desires “are ‘sinful’”.

I’ve heard it said that it isn’t the attraction that is sinful, but the action.

We are all attracted to sin in one form or another. Some of us would, left to our own devices, speed, steal, cheat on our taxes, cheat on our spouses, lie, lust, hate - the list goes on and on. But we have God’s morality etched into our consciences; that alone keeps us from going off the deep end of selfish behaviors of many kinds.

And none of us are perfect. Even the Apostle Paul struggled with sin, and elsewhere, acknowledges that he fails to do right even when he knows it, and does wrong even when he knows it’s wrong.

God knows that we can’t be perfect all the time, so He provided a solution to our sin problem that doesn’t rely on our efforts. God came to earth as a man, lived a sinless life, allowed himself to be killed to pay the penalty for our sins. In rising from the dead, He showed that sin has been conquered once and for all, and all we need do is to acknowledge that truth and put Him first in our lives. (I’ve stated that badly, I know, but...)

So, forgiveness and redemption are “insidious”. Sad, particularly from someone in such dire need of forgiveness and redemption.

Fred should know that God stands ready to forgive and redeem, provided there is repentance for his/sins, an attitude of sorrow for committing the sin, and acceptance of God’s redeeming grace through Jesus Christ.

I ran across a quote a couple of years back:

Those who are hardest to love need love the most.

So true. I experienced that with a son who is now a recovering meth addict. He has been clean over two years now. There is hope with God.

THIS.
(Although I personally prefer the eloquence of the KJV for that particular passage, and I would suggest tossing in verse 28....just for good measure.)

I started to add more but didn’t want the post to be too lengthy.

Apparently these people haven’t a clue as to what Christianity is, or they’re agents of darkness whether they are aware of it or not.

How about that attempt to leave a birth certificate sex, blank, for the kid to fill in later?

And they say ‘they are born that way’, it’s not a choice??

Basing a political movement on ‘sexual hole of choice’ is silly, stupid and might not even get past white trash ‘elites’ at Harvard...

Yeah, that whole chapter spells it all out plain as day.
Once they’ve been turned over to a reprobate mind, it is, without a doubt, they’ve become “agents of darkness”.
IMHO from studying the Word; men and women are endowed with a conscience. It is part of the human makeup and was instilled by God. It is thru the conscience that one becomes aware of God and what is right & wrong. When that conscience is “seared with a hot iron” (1Timothy 4:1-2), they have deliberately shut off any awareness via their conscience that was constantly convicting them of their sin. It is a that point, they’re given over to a reprobate mind. God still loves em and wants all to come to Him, but they’ve deliberately shut off “the communication line” so to speak.

“God still loves em and wants all to come to Him”

That’s something I’ve noticed homosexuals and atheists can’t wrap their heads around, that as Christians even though we disagree with how they are living their lives (in a non judgemental way) we still love them as God does......I’ve seen that cause them to actually lash out on occasion.

Also I’ve noticed with a lot of atheists its not enough for them that they have the freedom to not believe (God is very big on freedom of choice) they dislike the fact that we DO believe.

Yep. I’ve said it many times before that IF God doesn’t exist, why is it such an issue with them what one believes or doesn’t believe?
IMHO, unlike the homosexual, the atheist still has some resemblance of a conscience that quietly gnaws on their gut. Thus, they dislike the very idea that’s contrary to their way of thinking and of those that do believe.

I think we’re on the same page my friend. Many atheists I come across seem to be selfish with their lives but still have a little doubt in the back of their minds as to if they are living the right way. I think from that conflict comes the outward aggression.

Christian forgiveness and redemption are ‘code for conversion therapy’ Indeed. Thank God. But it is really not therapy - though counsel can be needed - but conversion. But since Christian forgiveness and redemption are also code for repentance from idolatry, disrespect of parents and valid authority, murder, fornication, adultery, theft, envy, etc., then as proxy servants for the devil liberals oppose the Lord Jesus. https://peacebyjesuscom.blogspot.com/2020/03/the-big-picture-who-is-really-running.html

Here's a thought:

Most homosexuals were sexually abused as children.

So providing those victims with the the proper care is RAPE THERAPY.

These perverts are banning Rape Therapy!

I've heard it said that it isn't the attraction that is sinful, but the action.

That is sort of true and sort of not true.

People take that as that they can think about it and have fantasies and as long as they don't actually do it they are ok.

But thought is the father of action.

That is why Jesus taught about lusting in your heart.

If you harbor and cuddle your lust one day it will break free.

It is how humans work.
