A new study has revealed that 22% of U.S. evangelicals appear to reject the Bibles teaching that the gender of a person as male or female is given by God, the Creator, and instead believe in gender fluidity.
While 73% of American evangelicals disagree that gender identity is a matter of choice, 22% say they believe in that statement, according to the LifeWay Research State of Theology poll released Sept. 8.
The survey, sponsored by Orlando-based Ligonier Ministries, and conducted by surveying more than 3,000 Americans in March, also showed that Americans with evangelical beliefs (73%) are more likely to disagree that gender identity is a matter of choice than those without evangelical beliefs (47%).
The survey found that Americans in the Northeast are the most likely to agree with gender fluidity, at 44%, and so are those in the age group of 18 to 34, at 50%. However, Americans age 50-64 are the most likely to disagree (64%).
Further, the poll reveals that Americans in a rural area (56%) are more likely to disagree with gender fluidity than those in a large city (45%).
Attending religious service also matters, as the study found that Americans who attend a service at least once or twice a month are more likely to disagree that gender identity is a choice than those who do not (57% vs. 47%).
LifeWay also asked respondents if they believe the Bibles condemnation of homosexual behavior doesnt apply today. The study found that evangelicals are the most likely to disagree, at 72%. It also revealed that Americans with evangelical beliefs are more likely to disagree than those without evangelical beliefs (81% vs. 34%).
Last week, a survey by the Pew Research Center said half of Christians say sex between consenting adults who are in a committed dating relationship is sometimes or always acceptable, and over half with the exception of evangelical Protestants said casual sex is OK.
Some 62% of Catholics, 56% of Protestants in the historically black tradition, 54% of mainline Protestants, and 36% of evangelical Protestants say casual sex between consenting adults is sometimes or always acceptable, according to the Pew survey.
Among those who are religiously unaffiliated, as many as 84% say casual sex is sometimes or always acceptable, Pew added. And the percentage increases to 94% among atheists and 95% among agnostics.
Pew clarified that the survey did not ask respondents if they themselves would engage in any of these practices. Instead, the questions asked if they found the practices acceptable regardless of whether you would do it yourself.
However, Americans, in general, do not tend to accept a range of other sex and dating practices, for example, having sex on a first date, exchanging sexually explicit photographs with other consenting adults, and having an open relationship, according to Pew.
Looked at the headline. Knew right away it was more crap from the Christian Post.
Knew that I was not going to waste my time even reading the excerpt. Just wanted to post this remark, and Im done.
For men all these behaviors are extremely dangerous to them and can lead to financial and personal ruin.
Better not to engage in them. Let others be targets.
Reminds me of how Big Media used to every several months publish an article surprised that x percentage of Americans still believed that the Fraud was a muslim.
Q: How many legs does a dog have, if you call the tail a leg?
A: 4
Calling the tail a leg does not make it a leg.
People can call themselves evangelicals, but if they reject the Bible, they are not evangelicals.
How about science???
The 22% can go to Hell. And not figuratively speaking either.
RE: Looked at the headline. Knew right away it was more crap from the Christian Post.
I’m a little puzzled by your hostility towards this news. Is it because you don’t want to believe the result of the survey?
It was sponsored by none other than Ligonier Ministries (founded by none other than the great popular theologian, RC Sproul ). If there’s any organization that is strongly Biblicaly based, this is it.
Prophecy fulfilled. Amos 8. Whole chapter. But in particular verse 11 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD.
Then they are not, by definition, “Evangelicals” which is understood to distinguish between those that actually practice their Christianity daily as a priority, and those whom call themselves Christian but rarely darken the door of a church, much less partake in daily devotions.
Precisely.
I have read the Bible cover to cover three times, with multiple studies of parts. I didn’t know it contained “teaching on gender.”
Maybe we need hundreds of thousands of pages of argument by learned scholars so that we can have interpretations which supercede Scripture itself. Maybe not. A religion that goes for that sort of thing will probably have a lot of problems.
Well, since gender is in the head, and sex is between the legs, it is both. One’s sex is determined, and given, by God; one’s gender is another matter, and the Left does its damnedest to try to convince the vulnerable their two don’t match.
The vast majority of people have their heads on straight (no pun intended), so the one matches the other.
Those whose gender matches their sex are normal; the others need psychiatric help, rather than butchery & hormone “treatments”. And by psychiatric help, I do not mean the current affirmations of their gender dysphoria, but an actual re-straightening of their warped mind.
An evangelical Christian who doesnt believe in the Bible in neither Christian nor evangelical.
How does ANYONE believe that insanity? I never "chose" to be male - I simply recognized that I was.
Because they believe more in the lies of men than in the word of God.
Or even their own lying eyes...
Pitiful.
If youre even somewhat familiar with Christian Post then you know that they look for articles portraying Christians in a bad light. Is it fair to say they are actually anti-Christian as they publish nothing but bad news against Christianity? Probably
I think the numbers regarding approval of casual sex show why the divorce rate among many who profess to be Christians have divorce rates similar to those who do not profess to be Christian.
In the book of Matthew...Jesus says many will come to him sayng Lord, Lord...but he will cast them out..cuz he says “ I do not know you”....very sobering...
RE: If youre even somewhat familiar with Christian Post then you know that they look for articles portraying Christians in a bad light.
I’ve been reading this publication for years.
I wouldn’t say that they “LOOK FOR” ( as in try hard to find ) articles portraying Christians in a bad light.
In fact, many of their columnists are Devout Christians whose articles are very Biblically based.
The question we have to ask is this -— Do they publish What IS TRUE? Or do they embellish the news?
Just because we don’t like something does not mean that it isn’t true.
22% of evangelicals will also vote for Biden.
