As of July 13th, 2020 ALL indoor Church services have been banned in at least 30 counties, even in-home Bible studies, and fellowship. In other counties, fellowship may be limited to 25% capacity or 100 people, whichever is less. Also, singing, chanting, praise, and worship have been banned. However, the exact same order also allows protests.
Under Governor Newsom’s latest directive, residents of California can engage in protests and riots, but cannot house a Bible Study with a friend or neighbor.
Liberty Counsel will be filing suit against Gov. Newsom on behalf of Pastor Samuel Rodriguez, who is president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC). The NHCLC represents 42,000 churches nationwide. Sam is also the senior pastor of churches in Sacramento and Los Angeles. The suit will also include many other churches in California.
On July 13th, 2020 California Governor rolled back the phased reopening as the number of Coronavirus cases rose; Most counties, including Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange, and Riverside, will be forced to shutter gyms, houses of worship, hair salons, malls and other businesses under the new order, which is effective immediately and remains in effect indefinitely. Also, offices with nonessential workers in those counties must close.

I would suggest that when you write these sort of statements that you include yourself. For example, "but I suspect THAT most OF WE Americans would rather clutch their OUR guns in private than try to take back the country in a revolt.

In Hitler’s Germany, most clergy went along with Nazism. Bonhoffer and Niemöller were notable exceptions.
I’m willing to bet that most California clergy go along with this edict.
California brothers and sisters, do not comply. Look at Daniel — he easily could have quietly prayed hidden in his home. But he probably always prayed at his window, so he continued to do so. No edict of man or King would prohibit him from praying as was his normal fashion. He did not loudly flaunt his disobedience, but he did not shrink from praying openly either. Look at the men of the New Testament. When they were told to stop preaching the gospel they said we have to obey God, not man. Gather up your courage and expect consequences and accept those consequences, consider it all joy, and continue going about your worship.

from observing ‘protests’ - dancing, singing, meditating, praying, chanting and extended moments of silence, are all allowed. So, take the congregation, march to the nearest public square, sit down, and pray, dance and sing. Under protest ‘rules’ you’re not a church if you’re not in a building, and you’re not ‘congregating’ if you’re just assembling with no leader. If anyone asks who the leader or pastor is, say you don’t know, everybody just showed up.
