Israel has decided to remove the U.S.-based evangelical Christian station GOD TV from the Israeli cable television provider HOT due to claims that it was trying to evangelize Jews.
Asher Biton, chairman of Israels Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Council, said he told the station last Thursday that it has seven days to halt broadcasting.
The channel appeals to Jews with Christian content, stated Biton, as reported by the Associated Press, claiming that the stations original request was to be a station targeting the Christian population.
The GOD TV station for Israel, known as Shelanu, has denied that it is in violation of its terms. Ron Cantor, God TV regional director in Israel, told the Messianic Jewish news site Kehila News the allegations against the station are simply not true.
From the first day we met with HOT, it was very clear what we wanted to broadcast: Messianic Jews sharing their faith in Yeshua in a variety of ways, from interviews, to music, to personal stories. And thats what we do to this day, stated Cantor.
Our content providers are Israelis. Sabras. Serving in the Army. Paying their taxes. And we are people of integrity. If we really lied to get a license, of course we would have been caught. It does not make sense. It goes against everything we teach.
In April, GOD TV launched a Hebrew-language channel on Israeli cable TV called Shelanu, under the condition that it not engage in missionary activities among non-Christian Jews. It had been given a seven-year license from the Israeli Communications Ministry.
Soon after it began airing programming, accusations were made that the station was trying to proselytize Jews, with GOD TV CEO Ward Simpson addressing the matter last month.
The governing authorities that manage these things have been receiving numerous complaints about our content and about different things with the channel, especially as it relates to the rules and regulations of what can and cannot be said on TV in Israel, stated Simpson at the time.
As far as we have been told, the [Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Council] would like to shut down the channel. We have a great team of lawyers over there, probably the best in Israel. So they are working with the council now to try and figure out what to do.
Simpson insisted that the channel was not trying to convert Jews to become Christians. "Our attorneys and our staff over there have all told me that we are in compliance and that we are following the rules and regulations, that we are legal and that there is no way that they can really pull us off the air because we havent done it," he said then.
Excellent!
RE: Excellent!
Can you elaborate?
Oh, the horror of trying to teach them about Christ...
That's untrue. The channels CEO has previously gloated over his channel's "unprecedented opportunity" to convert Jews "inside in the Jewish state." Maybe his passion got the best of him, but they are clearly lying now.
Excuse me. I am one of “them” and believe it or not, we don’t need to be told that Christ is the only way. It sounds like they misrepresented themselves. I will forgive you for appearing to be anti-semitic. We have enough problems.
Thats too bad, everyone needs Jesus
RE: The channels CEO has previously gloated over his channel’s “unprecedented opportunity” to convert Jews “inside in the Jewish state.”
I would appreciate it more if he would OPENLY tell everyone, that YES, we are trying to bring the gospel to the Jews, in the same way the Jews brought the gospel to the western world. Why keep it a secret?
Jesus is Jewish.
I don’t need forgiveness from you for you thinking I’m something I’m not. I feel the same way about any non-Christian religion and would use “them” in a story about Muslims, Buddhists, or whatever. That may make me pro-Christianity to an extent that makes you uncomfortable, but it doesn’t make me anti-Semitic. Have a good day.
Maybe they should see if they could get a license from Syria to broadcast to the region from there. Assad has always been the most sympathetic to Christians of the mideast leaders since the Saudis had the Bush family exterminate Saddam (who had a Christian vice president. The Christian vice president was sentenced to death by the US installed puppet government for the crime of “persecution of Islamic parties”)
It’s illegal in Israel for all religions to seek converts of anyone under age 18 — including (mainly) fringe Jewish groups.
For whatever reason, Israel is the target of whacko religious groups — not just Nazarene — but Scientologists, fundamentalist Mormons, lots and lots of violent Islamic groups, and even Branch Davidians.
To pass Constitutional muster under Israeli law, it’s just blanket ban.
It’s just a TV station? If a watcher does not like what is being said, can’t they just turn it off? That’s what I do with most of the religious stations that come into my home teaching all sorts of charismatic nonsense. But even though I disagree with Benny Hinn, Paula White, Jesse Duplantis, Creflo Dollar, TD Jakes, I don’t block those stations, I just change the channel. I don’t like hearing that the leaders of this channel are being deceptive. Maybe they are and maybe they are not, it kind of depends on the agenda of the writer of the article. But I guess I am disappointed that freedom of religion is not the rule in Israel. I mean you have Mulsims killing Jews on a regular basis. I am not aware of any Christians doing any harm to Jews. Are you so afraid of the message, you don’t even want it to be allowed at all. It’s crazy. “ALL WE LIKE SHEEP HAVE GONE ASTRAY, WE’VE TURNED EVERY ONE TO HIS OWN WAY, BUT THE LORD HAS LAID ON HIM THE INIQUITY OF US ALL” ISAIAH 53:6
The anti-messiah and the false prophet shall come. It has already been foretold. Very few people in the world, relatively speaking, know this will happen.
In the middle of the 7 year peace deal, the anti-messiah will declare himself to be “God”. And then shall be great tribulation. No doubt these words mean next to nothing to the unbelieving world at this point. Oh well.
2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 King James Version (KJV)
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
Trying to preventing someone from believing in Jesus (who doesn’t already believe) is irrational. That’s essentially the purpose of the rule. It’s kind of bizarre.
The ONLY issue I have is IF my tax dollars are being USED to keep these anti-Christians afloat ... then they have NO call to discriminate against Christianity .... Now there is the big question .... Are any of these that seek to practice actually Christian. The Heavenly Father owns this globe and His will, will be done..
What anti-Christians?
Ouch. People are not “anti-semitic” because they want to introduce Jews to Jesus. When you use that term in this instance, it cheapens real anti-semitism.
