Vast Majority of Pastors See Signs of End Times in Current Events

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Almost 9 in 10 pastors see at least some current events matching those Jesus said would occur shortly before he returns to Earth, according to a new survey focused on Christian eschatology, or the study of end times.

A study from Nashville-based LifeWay Research of pastors at evangelical and historically black churches found 97% say they believe Jesus Christ will literally and personally return to Earth again.

“While Christians prepare to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, many pastors believe they see signs his return may be close,” said Scott McConnell, executive director LifeWay Research. “These sentiments were expressed in January before the prospect of a global pandemic became known.”

In Matthew 24, Jesus’ disciples asked him about signs of his coming, and he responded by speaking of “birth pains” that would precede his return.

Darrell Bock, New Testament studies professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, noted that the Bible has several lists of potential signs of Jesus’ return, like the Olivet Discourse passages of Matthew 24-25, Mark 13, Luke 21, and some include concepts of global sicknesses.

How odd.
I wonder if the "vast majority" of priests and rabbis see the same thing.

There has never been a year on earth when there have not ben “signs of end times”. Not a year.

Tell me what year earth had no wars or no false prophets. What years had no natural disasters? What years had immoral peoples somewhere, widespread over the earth.

Jesus said he would return as a thief in the night. Nobody is going to get any warning. There are no unique “sign of end times” that will tell us when Jesus will return. None. It is a guessing game. Don’t even try to guess at it.

End Times Ping

PM me if you wish to be added or removed.

Jesus advised us to be wise of the times we live in. He admonished the Pharisees for not doing so.
The sons of Issachar knew about the times they were living in (1 Chronicles 12:32), so must we.

Maranatha!

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

You could run this same stupid poll over the past 300 years and you would get the same result.

Because funny enough you get plenty of clergy that HAVE said the same things too!

The first half of my life was great and I lived hard, did some no so good things but have asked God to please forgive me.

I’m only 51 but the best years ain’t ahead and the past 30 or so were pretty crazy.

I got lucky and had all my good times early :)

Whatever comes, comes.

It would be difficult for anyone who believes we are in the End Times (myself included) not to have their assessment of current events blurred by confirmation bias.

Well, with regards to the book of revelation that is true.
On the other hand there are recognizable precursors.

I would say that the restoration of Israel was one.

The leveling of Damascus will be another and so will the restoration of temple sacrifice in Jerusalem.

Well since the churches have been closed since March 17 I don't know what the priests think.
But I doubt if they read the "end times" in these current times.

I imagine that in most crises some people tend to see END TIMES. I don't know why. NO ONE knows when the end is coming but I BET it wont be for a long, long, long, long time. Just a guess.

We can certainly know the season. If you read the technology used in the Book of Revelation, that technology is here. If we go on another 10-15 years as is, current technological trends will eclipse it.

Luke 21:28-33
Matthew 24:32-43

Up to you to discern or not.

Why would Damascus be leveled? It's an old, old city.

The most consistent signs mentioned in scripture, Old and New Testaments, are disturbances in the heavens involving the sun, moon and stars.

You aren’t Christian, so I wouldn’t expect you to understand this concept.

Your scoffing however is Prophetic and right on target.
Keep it up!

Considering my awakening to just how evil the CCP has become and what they’re willing to do to their own people AND the rest of the planet, knowing how our economies have too many dependencies - re-reading Revelations feels like it’s through a different lens.

The CCP is truly trying to make the world bow at their feet.

Yep. Everything is a sign of end times to those who think they will be able to see it. I a Christian, but these are a lot like Nostrodamus’s predictions. So vauge and universal that enybody can see anything it in they wan to because there is NOTHING unique or specific you can point to.

Vague prophesies are meaningless prophesis except in hindsight.

So, I’m a pastor. I don’t see anything different now than at any other time in world history. The return of Christ is always immanent. It will come when God wills, and not a moment before or after. Christians are to be ready at all times ... all times ... just as you, dear Christian, are to be ready for your last day every day, for today may be your end, and the day you stand before your Judge.
