Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg suggested Friday that unborn babies can be aborted up until they draw their first breath, saying parts of the Bible mention how life begins with breath.
The South Bend, Indiana, mayor spoke with The Breakfast Club on Friday morning about his comprehensive Douglass Plan, his thoughts on whether America is ready for a gay president, and whether black voters should vote for him.
Buttigieg discussed how the Bible talks about life beginning with breath, and suggested this would be one way to determine when life began in relation to abortion debates.

He said Republicans hold everyone in line with doctrine about abortion.
which is obviously a tough issue for a lot of people to think through morally, Buttigieg said. Then again, theres a lot of parts of the Bible that talk about how life begins with breath, and so even that is something that we can interpret differently.
He added that hes pro-choice.
I think, no matter what you think about the kind of cosmic question of how life begins, most Americans can get on board with the idea of, alright, I might draw the line here, you might draw the line there, but the most important thing is the person who should be drawing the line is the woman making the decision, the South Bend mayor continued.
This is not the first time Buttigieg has spoken out about his views on abortion. He criticized pro-life Republicans on Aug. 21 at a town hall, asking what Republicans do for unplanned parenthood.
They are so busy attacking Planned Parenthood, Buttigieg said. Id like to know what they think of unplanned parenthood.
Buttigieg also defended a womans right to late-term abortions at a Fox News town hall in May.
I think the dialogue has gotten so caught up on where you draw the line, that weve gotten away from the fundamental question of who gets to draw the line, and I trust women to draw the line when its their life, Buttigieg told Fox News Chris Wallace.
Wallace then asked if he would be okay with a woman, well into the third trimester, deciding to abort her pregnancy.
The bottom line is, as horrible as that choice is, that woman, that family, may seek spiritual guidance, they may seek medical guidance, but that decision isnt going to be made any better, medically or morally, because the government is dictating how that decision should be made, said Buttigieg, after asking Wallace to put himself in the shoes of the woman in that situation.
Buttigiegs campaign did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundations request for comment.
He can also justify his unrepentant homosexuality too... Go figure.
What a sick, cynical little man this guy is!
He thinks he can wow evangelical Christians to loving him by what? Convincing them that they have been misled into their views on the sanctity if human life.
Wow, But Guy Guy quoted the Bible! I think Ill go kill some babies cause God wants it or something. And next we can get back to sending the Jews to the camps cause God wants that to.
Bootyfudge is a homo. That renders anything he says as idiotic.
Why not the second breath.
Something new under the sun. A FredocRAT who quotes The Bible. The Lord works in mysterious ways, indeed. Preach on, Pete.
So far that's not to the left of Obama.
Sick, twisted pervert.
Yeah i only violated like 4 in my WORST years.
And what’s this nonsense about the Bible saying life begins with breath meaning that abortion is ok?
The Bible could have said that the umbilical cord brings oxygen to the fetus during its growth.
But the Bible isn’t a medical encyclopedia.
What a jerk he is.
Sick evil pinko pervert.
Butt I Gig is a moron.
It has been clear from the beginning that Butt-Gag is the bride but until his recent pronouncement that he is an enthusiast for infanticide I didnt think of him as the bride of satan. I wonder what his husband thinks of Butt-Gags vile beliefs?
Hes the Pope of the Demon Rat party.
Its very surprising that Bootyjuice knows so much about the Bible, but missed the part about Sodom and Gomorrah...
Internet memes can be dangerous.
They almost always present an idea in a humorous way. Sadly, those who are unable to think critically confuse comedy with veracity.
To make matters worse, these memes are easily shared on social media, so the false idea spreads like a virusinfecting minds that lack the knowledge and training to defend against it.
For example, in the last month, I have encountered a particular pro-abortion meme on multiple occasions. Heres what the meme says (Ive cleaned up the spelling and grammar mistakes to make it more readable):
Forced-birth extremist: My religion says you cant have an abortion.
Me (Note: the author of this piece is not referring to himself here): Your Bible says life begins at first breath; clumps of cells dont breathe air in the womb. Genesis 2:7, He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and it was then that the man became a living being.
This response is supposed to leave the forced-birth extremist speechless. In fact, the meme ends with a picture of a shocked Pikachua Pokémon characterfor comedic effect. However, the only thing shocking about this response is how much it misunderstands what the Bible actually teaches.
Memes like this have some rhetorical force at first blush, but most usually lack any substance upon closer inspection.
Before reading any further, I want to encourage you to take out a pen and a piece of paper and think of your own response to this challenge. When youve finished, compare your answers with mine.
After a few moments of reflection, I came up with five reasons why this meme fails.
First, the pro-life argument isnt that abortion is wrong because my religion says so. We can make a biblical argument. However, our primary argument isnt biblical; its philosophical and scientific.
The pro-life argument is that its wrong to intentionally kill an innocent human being. Abortion intentionally kills an innocent human being. Therefore, abortion is wrong.
Notice no Bible verses were quoted. So, this meme doesnt even come close to addressing the pro-life case. In fact, this meme ignores it completely.
Second, the Bible does not say life begins at first breath. Whoever created this meme needs to read their Bible again. It says Adam came to life at first breath (Gen. 2:7). Of course, this is a descriptive statement, not a prescriptive statement. The author of Genesis is not telling us when all human beings come to life. The Bible doesnt teach that every man comes to life at first breath any more than it teaches that every woman comes from the rib of a man (Gen. 2:2122).
If we want to know what the Bible teaches about when life begins, we are going to have to look elsewhere.
Third, the Bible elevates the status of unborn humans to valuable persons. For example, Psalm 139:1316, Jeremiah 1:5, Job 31:15, and Psalm 22:1011 all imply the unborn is a valuable human being. Never is the unborn treated as a clump of cells. Look these verses up and see for yourself.
Furthermore, Luke 1:4143 clearly teaches that unborn babieseven in the first trimesterare valuable persons. It says,
And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Its hard to grasp the weight of this paragraph. The third trimester John (who was already filled with the Holy Spirit according to Luke 1:15) leaped for joy in the presence of the first trimester Jesus, who was even called Lord in His first trimester. How can a clump of cells be Lord?
The Bible clearly communicates that Jesus, John the Baptist, Jeremiah, David, and others were valuable personsliving human beingsbefore they ever took their first breath.
Fourth, referring to pro-life advocates as forced-birth extremists is ridiculous rhetoric. This is where the first Columbo question would be appropriate: What do you mean by that?
True, Im a forced-birth extremist if you mean that I dont believe we should be able to interrupt the natural development of an innocent human being by killing him or her. In that case, Im also a forced-breathing extremist in that I dont believe we should interrupt the natural development of an innocent human being by suffocating him or her.
This meme tries to make it sound bad to be against killing innocent human beings.
Fifth, the Bible explicitly states, You shall not murder (Ex. 20:13). That is, we should not take the life of an innocent human being without proper justification. This command rules out abortion at any stage of development since abortion takes the life of an innocent human being without proper justification.
As I said before, we can make a biblical argument against abortion. The Bible teaches that its wrong to take the life of an innocent human being. Abortion takes the life of an innocent human being. Therefore, the Bible teaches that abortion is wrong. But, once again, our main argument does not rely on quoting Bible verses to make our case.
So, this meme fails at every level. The next time you see it pop up, dont let it go unchallenged. Instead, boldly proclaim truth. Our world desperately needs it.
Its for the children Hillary? Does The Stupid Party (GOP) mention this? crickets
You know, this guy is giving the “regular” crazy people in this country a bad name. the democrats have gone very far past being just bat-quano crazy. I am afraid to see where the bottom of the Democrats crazy well actually is.
Gen 9:4 Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
Lev 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.’
Lev 17:14 For as for the life of all flesh, its blood is identified with its life. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.’
Deu 12:23 Only be sure not to eat the blood, for the blood is the life, and you shall not eat the life with the flesh.
Hey Buttdigger - have you read this verse yet?
“Leviticus 20:13 13”’If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”
Wow. I can just see the campaign advertisements and posters now.
“Abort a healthy baby right up to the moment of birth? Mayor ‘B’ says ‘Good to Go!’”
I’ve got a feeling this is a position even a minority of abortion supporters have trouble with.
And for a gay and proud of it man to be interpreting scripture and providing instruction on matters of faith, what arrogance.
He should have kept his mouth shut. He’s toast.
