Pope Francis has changed the Lord's Prayer after criticising the English translation for implying that God - not Satan - leads people into temptation.

Francis approved an alteration the line 'lead us not into temptation' which now reads 'do not let us fall into temptation', which is closer to the French translation.

Speaking about the change back in 2017, Francis said: 'It's Satan who leads us into temptation, that's his department.'

...

Francis also approved changes to The Gloria from 'Peace on earth to people of good will' to 'Peace on Earth to people beloved by God.'

During the General Assembly of the Episcopal Conference of Italy, President Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti announced the approval of a third edition of the Messale Romano in May, 'in the wake of the liturgical reform.'

It is clear now that he is a heretic and false prophet.

About 2 months ago another “aged Catholic” and I discussed this matter.

I told her that I had resolved the issue in MY mind by adding a breath pause after the ...lead us... words AND the ...into temptation...

Didn’t need a “pope’s” guidance on that one

Catholics who continue to ignore the insult that is Pope Francis, are at the vanguard of the socialist wave that is sweeping America.

Why? There's no difference in theology and the new wording clears up ambiguity.

The change comes after 16 years of research by Biblical scholars, and corrects what they believe was an error when the prayer was translated.

It is thought that Jesus originally spoke the prayer in Aramaic, before it was translated into Greek and other languages.

The English version of the prayer is derived from the Greek translation.

The Greek word in question, eisenenkes, is found in the original New Testament in Matthew 6:13.

Agreed, this is how it is said in the Greek. People need to to realize that the way words are used changes over time.

There are a lot of things to complain about with this pope. This change is not one of them

THIS is the FIRST thing I have liked that he has done!! I NEVER understood that GOD would lead into temptation.....plus, I don’t think those were Jesus’s words anyway.

No it is very clear and people need to understand this that the Holy Spirit (Who of course is God) led Jesus into the desert to undergo temptation by the devil. And Jesus is our Way.

God’s purpose with temptation is not to lead us to sin, but to strengthen us through our resisting temptation.
Nonetheless we pray not to be led into temptation (unless it is absolutely necessary for us to be tempted).

So, changing a few words here and there gets us closer to Heaven. Uhm...no.

And the Protestant (”Evangelical”) contingency is unknowingly being hood-winked and dragged into socialism by “motivational preachers” like John MacArthur.

His latest “studies” are all about re-distribution of our wealth to our fellow man using our salvation as a weapon of compliance.

Gosh - the Pope thinks he’s a better prayer composer than Jesus....
I use the version (Bible has two) where it says, “Lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from ‘the evil one’...”rather than from “evil”, because it infers more directly that Satan exists.

Why,? Maybe because it’s “The Lord’s Prayer,” and not his to change. This arrogant putz should be removed from “office” and excommunicated along with the “cardinals” who voted for him. I guess it was that “fake white smoke” that did it.

Um... The Lord didn’t speak King James English. King James messed up the translation from the Greek translation of ancient Aramaic.

Doesn’t matter, this Pope is a disgrace, and he’s bringing down the Catholic Church. As someone else posted, he’s a false prophet, or better still he’s no prophet at all. I am beginning to wonder if he’s really just a Nazi, since he’s from Argentina.

It is possible that you are correct about the Pope, but it appears that King James’ translation was incorrect and the change will better reflect the original Greek translation. There is no way of knowing how correct the Greek translation of ancient Aramaic might be. I’ll cut him some slack this time.

“Lead us not into temptation” can be interpreted as : Having US humans not simply see Gods power and glory and creations/works, and then start assuming that WE can somehow do the same (Instead that WE should avoid the idea that WE ‘can play god’, or to minimize what God has done).

That part of the prayer is to remind us constantly of that possibility - (lead) give us understanding of that hubris and use our gift of wisdom to avoid it.

There is no need to change the words.

I'm surprised there is little comment about this one. It seems to me to be a roundabout way of including Muslims as they, as a class, certainly cannot be considered "people of good will." One could argue that all of us, including Muslims, are beloved by G-d. (Though I would suggest that Psalm 15 implies the opposite.)
