Christophobia will do that...
That was a given.
That’s unfortunate. The Inklings circle of friendship is something Post-WWI that heavily influenced him. That was a very interesting chapter in his life.
Pre-reviews of the Tolkien movie released tomorrow have been mediocre.
I suppose it omits that he had a Catholic Priest as a guardian for a significant portion of his childhood.

A priest, by the way, well-known to Cardinal Newman, from whom I am proud to take my tagline.

The title should read “Catholic Faith”.
Take it up with PJ Media’s headline writers.
The book mentioned in the article, about JRR Tolkien and C.S. Lewis’s formative experience in WWI, is worth reading.
That’s too bad.
Was hoping this would be a movie worth going to.
Sounds like they “Petered Jacksoned” this movie.
By this I mean they gutted ‘The Hobbit” of original content and substituted PC and theme park crap to make three movies.
There was enough to make really great two movies if PJ just did what he did for the Ring trilogy.
But they screwed around with it and made a hot mess of it.
Won’t see this movie, either.
I didn’t know the Hobbits were Christian, anyway. Guess I was reading with my pagan eyes.
Another Disney movie to skip.
Not surprised. Hollywood hates Christians.
Typical Hollywood tripe. No guts no glory. Tolkein and Lewis were Christian brothers who worked tirelessly for the advancement of the Christian faith. The Ring trilogy is a masterpiece of Christian literature. The utter stupidity of this move makes it of no more value than a cheap confection.
It's that Tolkien said that is whole orientation, as a "sub-creator" under God the Creator, was toward moral truth: the truth of flawed creatures still serving under the influence of Grace, and under the aegis of an overshadowing Divine Providence bigger than any individual plan or design.
This is what gives any story coherence and interest. And that's how Tolkien could claim that The Lord of the Rings was "a fundamentally religious and Catholic work" (LINK).
You simply cannot understand Tolkien without understanding his Christian faith.
Hobbits weren’t Christians. Tolkien was.
But Tolkien’s background affected his writings.
Basically Good Vs. Evil.
Good beings sacrificed themselves for the betterment of others.
