Progressive pundit Cenk Uygur argued recently the Bible is pro-abortion.
The founder of The Young Turks a far-left outlet employed a passage from the Old Testament to make his case. Uygur, taking Numbers 5 out of context, claimed its a fact Scripture endorses abortion.
Youre wrong about your Bible, he said, speaking to Christians. Youve been misled; youve been lied to. Your religious and political leaders have kept you in ignorance. The Bible is actually pro-abortion thats a fact.
Uygur went on to suggest abortion has never been a religious issue.
It was never about the Bible, he added, claiming, the Bible says the opposite. It was always about controlling women.
The liberal commentator quoted segments of Numbers 5 to make his point, reading:
The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the Lord. Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water. After the priest has had the woman stand before the Lord, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse. Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you. But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband here the priest is to put the woman under this curse may the Lord cause you to become a curse among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell. May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries
That passage, though, is actually centered on an ancient Hebrew practice used if the husband was jealous whether legitimately or illegitimately of his wifes suspected sexual interactions with another man.
If she was guilty, she would be cursed and unable to conceive or carry a child. If she had remained faithful and the husbands jealousy was illegitimate, she would be fine.
Uygur also drew a nonsensical comparison between Saudi Arabia and Alabama, which he dubbed Saudi Alabama and encouraged them to leave the state if their abortion rights are in any way infringed.
If youre a woman, get out get out before [Supreme Court Justice Brett] Kavanaugh and the other guys take away Roe v. Wade, he said. Otherwise, theyre going to take away your rights, and theyre going to put you in prison. Thats what they do in Saudi Arabia.
Christians get their religion from the NEW Testament. -Tom
The Garden lie of the Serpent was essentially “Oh pooh on that God. He can’t mean it. He’s got a base motive.” In one very brassy act of projection.
“If she was guilty, she would be cursed and unable to conceive or carry a child.”
This doesn’t sound like an abortion but a curse. If it was still true today that any woman who conceives through adultery would have a miscarriage there wouldn’t be many celebs left in Hollywood would there?
Just tell Cenk that when he commits to following all the other parts of the Bible faithfully, then we can hear him out on his opinion about this part of the Bible.
“This is like me trying to defend the 2nd Amendment by invoking Batman’s use of firearms...”
Batman doesn’t use firearms though... except in that incredibly stupid Ben Affleck movie.
Yep... it sounds like God was really against premarital sex....
The early Church in the Didache thought otherwise.
And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels to make thy belly to swell and thy thigh to rot And the woman shall say Amen amen.
Numbers 5:22 (KJV)
It's not talking about an abortion, but a physiological response due this "ordeal" which will reveal the unfaithfulness (adultery) of the woman.
The Bible does not condemn the child for the parent's sin.
The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
Deuteronomy 24:16 (KJV)
Thou shalt not murder.
That’s a fact.
It does not, and if it did it would be wrong. Abortion is against human nature, and therefore wrong.
He's in full denial of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey.
This idiot’s opinion is not worth one red (commie) Cenk!
absurd. Not non-theraputic abortion.
"Saudi Alabama". Yet another xenophobic muzzie Turkish ****.

He should worry about getting offed by one of the tranny hooker he likely picks up in his car.
I prefer “I love it when heathens choke to death trying spit out lies from our bible.
Wow, just wow! I guessed I missed that in Bible study.
“Libsplaining”.
Theres one key difference here. The priest, in acting as an agent of Gods will, issues the conditional curse. So, if the woman was unfaithful and a miscarriage was a result, the presumption is that the miscarriage was Gods will.
So, this leftist Bible scholar is comparing apples to oranges. A miscarriage never was nor ever will be considered a sin, precisely because a miscarriage is Gods will not mans will. But an abortion is a sin because its not only man interfering with Gods intention to create another human being but also because it actually kills a human being. Or more precisely, a man kills another (not in self defense) so it breaks the Command thou shalt not kill.
God has complete sovereignty over all He creates that includes all babies. So as sad as it is for us when a woman loses her child to a miscarriage she (and the father) can at least take comfort in the fact it was His will.
A miscarriage is not an abortion thats the bottom line so thats where this Biblical scholar gives an epic fail.
Recently I have been listening to a recording of the Bible as I go to bed and I think I’ve heard child sacrifice vehemently condemned over a dozen times in the first few books alone. Seems it was a common thing in those days to sacrifice little babies to false gods and idols. These days the closest thing seems to be abortion-—sacrificing one’s own precious little baby for the false god the Left serves.
