Hillsong Church has, over the years, hardly avoided the limelight, often finding itself at the center of hotly-contested debates. Now one of its biggest leaders is running headlong into the creation debate.
Joel Houston, eldest son of the Sydney-based churchs founders, lead musician in the worship band Hillsong United, and co-pastor of Hillsong Church in New York City, tweeted Monday that evolution is undeniable.

Maybe you sing it in your church. This is his explanation behind the "evolution" sentiment communicated through the song:
"Evolution is undeniablecreated by God as a reflective means of displaying natures pattern of renewal in pursuance of Gods Wordan ode to the nature of the creative God it reflectsand only ever in partnot the SOURCE! Science and faith arent at odds. God created the Big-Bang."
This idjut does not understand 'self contradictory', does he?
As if the book of Genesis wasn't enough, they also ignore that right in the middle of the Ten Commandments it's written "and in 6 days He created the heavens and the Earth".
Joel, just shut up and sing.
You can be certain that if such Christians compromise on an issue such as creation, they are likely compromised in many other critical doctrines of Christianity.
Six days as 13 billion years by relativity.
I wouldn’t be too hard on him. “Evolution” means different things to different people. To me, everything adapts, but what I actually mean by that is that everything mutates. And any “evolution” that takes place, for the most part, is really “de-evolution”.
And often, when people say something evolved, it is really the population that evolved. The population of north America has very much evolved over the last 600 years. But no individual people evolved.
This guy needs to spend a couple hours with Ken Ham or any other creation scientist and examine his premises.
He’ll be found wanting.
Concur and quite agree that words mean things and some have a tendency to become too malleable.
What evolutionary scientists see in living things and calls “Evolution”, I see as God’s design activating subroutines in the DNA that are adaptability and mean the survival of the species.
Flame away.
I shall be sure to view it at home. I sit behind a rather unforgiving firewall and can only view YouTube for work.
Yep. I’ve read articles about modern Europeans are the progeny of those that survived the plague. And all that that implies.
It doesn’t mean anybody evolved, but rather that the “weak” genes died out with the people that carried them.
As a software developer I agree that evolution is undeniable. Like software, I believe life has evolved from new version to new version with some old versions still in use. Again, like software, I don’t believe new versions of life come about by accident or random chance.
Nobody sees an updated app and thinks it happens because lightning struck some goo. Nobody who waits in line to buy a new iPhone is glad DNA from the iPhone 1 has been slowly mutating by itself to make newer and newer iPhones.
That’s how I see evolution. Not by natural selection. Not even by “theistic evolution” (a phrase used by people who believe God created natural selection billions of years ago and has been sitting back since watching His handiwork automatically spring up new species). I believe the Earth is billions of years old, that the word “day” in Genesis 1 means “era of unspecified length”, and that every now and then God interacts with His creation and creates a new species. One of those He actually breathed life into from Himself.
No need for flaming. Your view is simply mis-labeled. God created the Earth. How long He took is recorded by Moses as God revealed it to him. You calling it ‘evolved’ is truly adaptation of His design that allows for natural occurrences to change the face of our environment. Nothing that has happened has caught the Almighty unawares, which is essentially what Evolution would need to do.
Yep.
I’ll add: A lot of time could have passed between verses 2 and 3 in Genesis 1.
Imagine A story that says, “In the beginning, Johnny was born. And God said, leg Johnny graduate college and get married, and it was morning and evening the first day.
First day of what? Johnny’s life, or Johnny’s adult life?
But none of this has to do with the Gospel.
OK Joel
Show me something that has evolved into something else.
Evolution is undeniable in the sense that the fact that life changes to adapt to it’s environment over the generations is pretty well-documented.
It does not mean that man once made some great leap from the apes.
didn’t read article for full context of quote, if even given in article. i don’t like hillsong church tv or any of it for that matter - just got some phony vibe when I first heard of them years ago, just like some other local and national/global preachers can be phony - 1/2 biblical, etc in their speaking and actions..
That said - “evolution” can simply mean it’s definition, evolving, changing. I have evolved since accepting Jesus and letting the power of God change me.
Just because Merriam webster lists darwin nonsense as #1 of it’s definition doesn’t mean Merriam webster is right in doing so. Evolution meant definition 2, 3, etc before Darwin even existed probably.
