Catholics have vented their fury at last night's 'disrespectful' and 'blasphemous' Met Gala theme, which encouraged celebrities to wear outfits inspired by Christianity.
The annual fundraising fete in New York brings out Hollywood's elite to celebrate the spring exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, with this year's titled: 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.'
Pop star Rihanna created the biggest stir, attending in a short skirt, robe and mitre-like hat reminiscent of the Pope's headgear.
Katy Perry - who met Pope Francis on April 28 - also drew a lot of attention by coming dressed as an angel, complete with huge feathered wings.
Social media users were up in arms over some of the more outrageous outfits - with some saying they had been left 'upset and distraught' over the choice of theme.

More like Catholic fury.
the homosexuals organizing this once again had to be “edgy” by making sure it included a reference to Christianity.
It has been going on for a very long time and has evolved from attacking anonymous but nearly always evangelical Christians to the present.
I can recall when just about all Christians were portrayed positively, even in films made by Jewish directors etc.
Then you would see preachers from some un-named but really judgemental sect be seen as evil incarnate. By the 1960s just about all missionaries were stupid, hate filled idiots.
Now they even attack specific groups. Now all Christians except the most liberal are the victims of hatred.
Stop being hypersensitive or convert to islam.
Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Lutherans, Anglacans, plus a few others.
In other words, Papists
I saw on Miami TV Tuesday the local press cheering and giggling about the great fashion being worn at the Met Gala.
Imagine the feces flying if the theme were Islam or lampooned gay fashions.
No Just Catholics and some wanna-bes. Still no reason for them to insult religions. They would not do this to Jews or Muslims.
The Left have become openly hostile to Christianity. Any Conservatives with the guts to EXPLOIT and expose this hatred will cruise to election.
