Bishop Paprocki: Senator Durbin is not to be admitted to Holy Communion
Courageous Priest ^ | Bishop Thomas John Paprocki

Posted on 02/22/2018 8:49:54 AM PST by fatima

Statement from Bishop Thomas John Paprocki on Senate Failure to Pass Pain-Capable Unborn Children’s Act----- Edit------

Canon 915 of the Catholic Church’s Code of Canon Law states that those “who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.” In our 2004 Statement on Catholics in Political Life, the USCCB said, “Failing to protect the lives of innocent and defenseless members of the human race is to sin against justice. Those who formulate law therefore have an obligation in conscience to work toward correcting morally defective laws, lest they be guilty of cooperating in evil and in sinning against the common good.” Because his voting record in support of abortion over many years constitutes “obstinate persistence in manifest grave sin,” the determination continues that Sen. Durbin is not to be admitted to Holy Communion until he repents of this sin. This provision is intended not to punish, but to bring about a change of heart. Sen. Durbin was once pro-life. I sincerely pray that he will repent and return to being pro-life.

Personally I think Pastor’s of all faiths should shun people who vote to kill little babies. It’s not just a Catholic thing.Point them out and shun them.

I adore Flannery. She was a wise thinker. I am so happy to see a priest with a backbone.

There is no way a Catholic should be a Democrat. It’s in their platform they support abortion. This should be read at all Masses. If people don’t like it leave.

Why do they not follow Scripture and throw him out until he repents??

If you are asking why Durbin hasn't been excommunicated, that isn't what you think it is. Having been baptized a Roman Catholic there is nothing Durbin can do to be expelled from the church. Baptism is irreversible.

Excommunication means that a person is banned from receiving Communion. It's a formal declaration that is pretty much a last resort. By banning Durbin from receiving communion, Bishop Paprocki is basically saying to Durbin, "Last chance." Formal excommunication would be the next step unless Durbin repents.

What do you want, defenestration?

Well... now that you mention it...

:)

I am just glad to see churches live up to their own rules.

It really diminishes your moral foundations when you don't.

And, more importantly, it does not make God very happy.

Both of those are very bad things.

Not sure you can be thrown from a sub-basement window.

The last supper? “this is My Body”? There is nothing biblical about any other church but the Catholic Church. Where do you think the New Testament came from?

You never know until you try.

But it might be best to do it at night. He might burst into flames if he is pushed into the sunlight.

News flash to Hammerhead, the Bibles says:
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” (Matt. 26:26)
All the denials of the plain meaning of these words come not from the Bible but from false reasoning of men. So much for their claims of "sola Scriptura."

When you post on these clerics it would helpful if you post their location church and diocese. You may know who the individual is and where located but the average reader doesn’t.

“Having been baptized a Roman Catholic there is nothing Durbin can do to be expelled from the church. Baptism is irreversible.

Baptism is meaningless unless a person has saving faith.

Scripture says the church should deal with this by throwing him out until he repents as the final form of church discipline.

Rome is ignoring what God commanded churches to do.

“What do you want, defenestration?”

Just obedience to Scripture that is required of churches in fellowship with Christ.
