WASHINGTON, D.C., February 1, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) The Episcopal church in the Diocese of Washington, D.C., passed a resolution last week to stop using masculine pronouns for God in future updates to its Book of Common Prayer.
The resolution to stop using "gendered language for God" was passed quickly by delegates to the Diocese's 123rd Convention.
If revision of the Book of Common Prayer is authorized, to utilize expansive language for God from the rich sources of feminine, masculine, and non-binary imagery for God found in Scripture and tradition and, when possible, to avoid the use of gendered pronouns for God, the resolution stated.
Over the centuries our language and our understanding of God has continued to change and adapt, the drafters of the resolution stated. The drafters said that referring to God using masculine pronouns is to "limit our understanding of God."
"By expanding our language for God, we will expand our image of God and the nature of God," they stated.
But Clergy delegate The Rev. Linda R. Calkins from St. Bartholomews Episcopal Church in Laytonsville, Maryland, challenged the delegates to go further.
Calkins read from Genesis Chapter 17, in which God tells Abraham I am El Shaddai. She said that if Episcopalians "are going to be true to what El Shaddai means, it means God with breasts.
Having studied much feminist theology in my masters degrees, I wrote a thesis on liberation and freedom and non-equality in feminist theology and existential counseling, Calkins told the delegates, as reported by The Institute On Religion & Democracy.
And I am still waiting for the Episcopal Church to come to the place where all people feel that they can speak Gods name. Many, many women that I have spoken with over my past almost 20 years in ordained ministry......

I’m calling Hot dogs Hot cats now
The Episcopal Church left me, I did not leave TEC. They haven’t been a recognizable Christian denomination for years.
I wonder how this Book of Common Prayer will start off the first 2 words of “The Lord’s Prayer”
Glad I left years ago.
For Christ’s sake. Literally. Jesus was a MALE on Earth. We do not know the “gender” of God... so we remove the Biblical gender? Based on what?
“Praise “protoplasm” from whom all Blessings flow” yeah, that works.
Will it be he/she/it from now on?
“Our Father who art in heaven...”
Psalm 103:13
13 As a father pities his children,
So the Lord pities those who fear Him.
The entire church is the bride of Christ, not
the groom...
There's an Anglican blogger who says that there's no use in trying to parody the Episcopal Church, because they get ahead of you every time.
We used to be Piskies, but we left after they consecrated the bishop who left his wife and two daughters to shack up with a man . . . we happened to go into an ECUSA church for a concert during Lent last year, and instead of Stations of the Cross, they had (I swear!) the Stations of the United Nations Millenium Goals.
Go down the tubes!
Yes, I’m anxious to see what they do with this!!!
Biblically correct or politically correct???!!! Mankind can really want to be important in God’s world...ugh!
Is it necessary to go on pretending these are Christians? Is there even one among them? And if so, what is he doing there?
Maybe its a sign of the times. Maybe this is an example of the great falling away.
We KNOW “GOD THE FATHER.”
Agreed. The local 2 CHURCHES are tiny, here, and show NO evidence of growth.
The culture wars are actually a reflection of a spiritual war. Satan is trying to weaken the church and family. I call it Creeping Satanism So in the spiritual war, another church gives ground again.
The Churches need to wake up and get a backbone-quit bowing down to social pressure from SJWs, secularists, and others-recognize the spiritual war, and pray to God the FATHER for strength and wisdom in leading their flocks.
Holy She-It.
Are they gonna start calling God, “It”.
And the Episcopal Church continues it’s reaction to a full stall by pulling back on the stick harder, convinced that that’ll make them go up.
