It is time to take the last step, the final step in the journey of Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Jr. and literally hundreds of thousands of other brave souls. This final step is to at last accept the truth; there is no such thing as race. It is a failed scientific theory from hundreds of years ago. It is a false concept that is only kept alive by our keeping it alive. There is no race gene. There is no White race. No Black race. Asian, Hispanic, all an illusion.

William Lloyd Garrison was a devoutly religious man and 30 years before the end of slavery he was perhaps the only person in the country who believed it could be ended. Let us follow his example (and his strength and yes, anger) and end the obscenity of race and racism.

Race exists. It is used to apportion government benefits and to selectively enforce laws. That must stop.
It has been used by the government to divide people into warring groups and to set them to hating each other. This must stop.
Race exists, and doctors must take it into account when diagnosing and treating illnesses.

True. But there is a “race card” and a “race vote”. Liberals will give up on the theory “communism can be done right, it just hasn’t yet” before they give up “race”.
Until something better comes along they need “race” to “get elected” to “do communism right”.
The OP is, just from the excerpt posted, unmitigated claptrap. There are observable, repeatable genetic differences between the various “races” of humans on earth. While there has been a significant blurring of the borders between those races, particularly in the last century, the differences still remain. No “race gene”? So, how prevalent is sickle-cell anemia in the “White” population? Why is there such a notable physical difference between whites/blacks/asians (not just color, but also body proportion, musculature, bone structure)? At what point does environmental adaptation become differentiation?
But so many bureaucrats will lose their jobs...so many professional race baiters will see their income plunge...the Democratic Party will lose all its power...have you no shame?
Yes, race exists...but, only in small minority nutcase groups in this country. The overwhelming number of American citizens are multi-mixtures of all types of different people from all over the world. That is why our nation is called “The melting pot of the World”. I, myself, have German, Italian, Spanish, Austrian, North African, Israeli, Jewish, bloodlines. Most Americans mirror my type of multi-racial and ethnic makeup of different sorts. We Americans proudly, are truly the “Mutts” of the American populace. That is what makes us the greatest nation in the entire world.
That, is in reality, why groups like the Congressional Black Caucus, the NAACP, The Congressional Hispanic Caucus, etc. are pure hogwash, for they are all politically driven only!!! Case Closed.

There are physical (and possibly mental) characteristics shared by segments of humanity. We refer to those variations as race. Why is that not acceptable?

You are correct there is no scientific basis for race. Ethnic groups do exist genetically and you can tell by DNA what general region someones ancestors probably come from. (I asked one of the foremost experts in population genetics this question straight up)
But race as a concept exists because as the replies indicate, politics exist.
The problem with race is all political. IMO all through the history of America there are large segments of the population who simply don’t believe in the founding principles of America, “all men are created equal”. That has caused problems since the beginning.
My wife and I are well over the hill, and sometimes we chase boredom by binge watching Family Feud. One thing that has sunk in from that is how many blacks, etc. are doing WELL, middle class folks in very responsible positions or entrepeneurs doing their own gig; happy and chasing the American Dream like the rest of us schlubs.
These types of posts ultimately serve to flush out those here on FR who are stuck on stupid. For those who fit the bill, please feel free to flame me. It only serves to prove my point.
There are of course multiple genes influenced by race, so your founding premise is wrong.
But we are overwhelmingly mutts and even if we weren’t, racial distinctions are wrong. The excuse for them over the past 50 years has been to correct for racism among us, but even 50 years ago that was a flawed approach to redressing racial wrongs.
As we have it now, every single nonwhite immigrant moves to the head of the line in preferences over our white native population, which is just wrong and for which our own low-skill and working class white citizens pay the heaviest price.

Sickle cell anemia is a good example.
It is not universal among black Africans and is found in Asians.
It comes from proximity to malarial Mosquitos and incidences of malaria.
Sickle cell can protect against malaria but two copies of the gene causes the anemia.
Yup....anyone can see that we're all the same.
There may not be a single gene that determines race, but there is certainly some combination that does. It is not too far-fetched to posit that that combination may also shape other characteristics, like intelligence.
I gave it up years ago.
There is only one race, the Human Race.
There are many breeds though.
