NEW YORK - President Donald Trump is channeling Archie Bunker without the charm, says Archbishop Thomas Wenski of Miami in response to Trumps alleged comments that African nations are sh*thole countries.
Trumps remarks are said to have come during a Thursday meeting with lawmakers regarding DACA and immigration reform.
Bunker is the popular 1970s sitcom character from the television show All in the Family, which often used bigoted remarks and salty language as a source of humor for the show.
In an interview with Crux, Wenski said the presidents remarks were disappointing and likely came in an effort to assuage his critics after holding a bipartisan meeting on Tuesday where he signaled a willingness to sign comprehensive immigration reform into law.
Following that meeting, the U.S. bishops issued a statement saying they were encouraged by its outcome and hoped the president would work expeditiously with lawmakers on the matter.
Wenski said that he actually believes there is a silver lining in the presidents actions on ending DACA and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in that it will finally force Congress into action.
By rescinding DACA and ending TPS, hes basically thrown the ball back into Congress, which is where the solution has always lied, said Wenski.
Both DACA and TPS were temporary solutions forcing people into limbo, Wenski told Crux. If Congress acts - and acts in a right way - the DACA people and TPS people will end up in a better position.

Oh? He charms me daily.
Well, Meathead was often loud mouthed, ignorant, and basically had no charm, lol.
Funny how he brings up who charms him.
Oh Stifle Yourself, Padre.
Wenski thinks that Trump made the remark in public... smh.
DACA and TPS were unconstitutional and irresponsible declarations that the government would not perform its prescribed duties simply to gain political benefits.
They are not laws; rather, they are a bizarre sort of anti-law.
And they are certainly NOT ‘solutions,’ temporary or otherwise.
There is *ahem* deep discernment in that particular statement.
Sheesh - mention sh*tholes and an Archbishop pops his head...
Apeaking as a Catholic, a practicing Catholic, i am not criticizing this priest, exactly, but Any priest who speaks out about politicians without speaking against abortion is just talking
Tax the Church!
If Congress acts - and acts in a right way - the DACA people and TPS people will end up in a better position.
If Congress fails to act, the American people will be in a better position when these parasites leave.
I always agreed with Archie Bunker. Donald Trump, however, is far more intelligent than Archie, has far more charm, is far wiser, and is a great president.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww poor wee lil liberal..wants open borders so they can get Democrat power forever. If these same cockroaches had “I love Republican” T-shirts on these same leftists would be kicking them across the border right now
The archbishop is quite the intellecutal.
I listened to Durbin this evening. Even he doesn’t say it the way is being reported. First, Trump asked why are we taking so many people from Haiti? Next he referred to the African countries people are fleeing. I don’t find it objectionable.
The archbishop is a pedophile enabler.
Drudge has a headline “Trump calls Haiti a shithole”. I listened to Durbin’s press conference. He absolutely made no such claim. The only reference to Haiti was “why are we taking so many people” from there.
The good bishop probably doesn’t remember that Archie was written to be a detestable bigot and it irked Norma Lear to no end that viewers generally cheered Archie along while disparaging Meathead at the same time. Mickey Rooney was slated to be Archie, originally, BTW. It’s nice to know the Bishop finds Archie Bunker’s acceptance of stereotypes and the behavior that resulted was ‘charming.’
Same thing happened with “Wall Street”’s Gordon Gekko. Michael Douglas is irritated to this day that people remember “Greed is good” more than any other line he had, and that movie-goers generally sided with Gekko.
