I am letting you be among the first to know. It is true. I am leaving the Catholic Church. I want you to know that this has not been a decision made in haste or without serious and intense research and consideration. But I can no longer remain in a church that I no longer believe in.
Let me explain.
I will be writing more about this soon, but for now let me just say there are five main reasons why I am leaving the Catholic Church:
1. I believe the sole rule of faith for Christians has to be Scripture. The Holy Bible is the only unchanging and definitive word of God that a Christian can build his or her life upon. Everything else, including the Catholic claims to authority, in the end, amount to ever-changing and ultimately sinking sand.
2. I believe works or any sense of salvific cooperation with Gods grace as constitutive to a Christians eternal life is unbiblical. not of works (cf. Eph. 2:8-9) means not of works.
3. The idea of Mary and the saints being involved in the salvation of a Christian is tantamount to a denial of the sufficiency of Christs redeeming work on Calvarys cross.
4. #3 can also be said of Purgatory, the sacrifice of the Mass, the Catholic view of salvation/justification, and more. These and more of the elements of Catholic teaching result in a denial of the sufficiency of the sacrifice of Christ. More to follow in a more detailed post.
5. What Catholics call the veneration of Mary and the saints is actually idolatry.
These are just for starters here. Many of you know that for the last 28 years I have defended the above teachings and more from the Catholic Church. I can no longer do so in clear conscience.
And by the way, just so you know
April fools!
Public confession of sins was one of the earliest known practices of the Church, and you only got one shot. After that you were barred from Communion for life.
Did you hear the latest on Catholic Bingo in Indianapolis??
That there be purt neer as good as the Unforgivable Sin!
The Christians (both heretics and orthodox) of the Apostolic Age were very strict with themselves... and each other.
No wait, that's Ravenger of Hearts.
Sounds like a monster from Harry Potter.
How about...
Love covers a multitude of sins?
Please show Biblical references (each issue, see the *s), chapters and verses and which translations used.
Thanks
Why? It's what they DID. Not everything the Church practices or believes is found in Sacred Scripture. But the practices of the Early Church are well documented and easily available, google is your friend. :)
Love covers a multitude of sins?
Well apparently post-baptism it covered a multitude of exactly one sin, of a mortal nature. That's one of the reasons you see people delaying their baptisms for YEEARRS.
Wrong again John, He used the Catholic church to spread His word and it is historically apparent that it happened that way.. Of course the Old testament existed and is fully included in the Catholic Bible, but the old testament alone, available at your local synagogue, certainly would not bring you up to date on that rabble rouser JESUS guy that they crucified.
He did nothing of the kind....no Eucharist for divorced and remarried, they are living in a state of adultry. He made ABSOLUTELY no changes in dogma nor teachings, no homosexual marriages....nothing.
If you don’t see it coming...well, never mind.
I'm afraid he did...
Those who approach the Body and Blood of Christ may not wound that same Body by creating scandalous distinctions and divisions among its members. This is what it means to discern the body of the Lord, to acknowledge it with faith and charity both in the sacramental signs and in the community; those who fail to do so eat and drink judgement against themselves
Nevermind that it's incoherent theology, it's a pretty clear change in teaching and it's only one instance out of a 60,000 word document.
And going to a priest in a cofessional anonymously qualifies as “public cofession” just how?
IOW, you get one chance or the Church damned you to hell forever, eh?
Because you guys claim that you have to eat Jesus to have eternal life. So if you ban them from communion for life, then it’s hell for them, baby.
I’m glad God is my judge and not the Catholic church. HE is a lot more merciful.
Jesus thought it did.
So guess who’s wrong.
Why should it, the Church developed a more "pastoral" practice over the course of a few centuries.
Would you have us go back to the times when sinners had to stand outside of the church building with a sign around their necks stating the sin and how long they were excommunicated? That's where the days in purgatory originally came from btw.
God makes it way easier to be forgiven than any church does.
His requirement is simple.
Confess and He will forgive.
Not prerequistes no qualifications as to when, where, or how.
We cofess to Him whose laws we have broken, the one whom we have offended and He will forgive. Period.
Jesus thought what did???I don't understand your post.
You're arguing against the faith and practices of the earliest known Christians. I've already posted the picture that goes with this, but here it is again:
Cue Elsie to show up with the 7 churches in Asia thing but the fact remains, if you can't trust the Christianity of the 1st century Christians then you certainly can't trust the Americanism of the 21st.
