Full Title: Megachurch Pastor Ed Young to Baptize Copies of 'Fifty Shades of Grey;' Calls Book a 'Perverted Attempt to Trap Readers'
______________________________________________
Just over a week before the steamy "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie opens on Valentine's weekend, controversial founding pastor of the popular Fellowship Church in Dallas, Texas, Ed Young, says he will baptize copies of the book on which the movie is based, calling it a "perverted attempt to trap readers."
"There is a cultural epidemic out there that is wrapped up in complete fantasy. The book, Fifty Shades of Grey, is a perverted attempt to trap readers and leads them to a misunderstanding of what intimacy and connection are all about," said Young in a press statement Wednesday.
"It is a pathetic distortion of a more powerful reality about relationships. God is not anti-sex, and he isn't grey when it comes to relationships. I want to wake people up to the reality that God's purpose and plan for their lives is so much greater!" he added.
Young, who's a New York Times best-selling author who wrote the book Sexperiment, addresses the power of healthy relationships in his latest book, Fifty Shades of They.
"You show me your friends and I'll show you your future. Relationships drive so much of our lives. It's time to start looking realizing the truth and put away the twisted falsehood. And it's time to answer the question, 'Are your desires fulfilled in a sexual fantasy, or a relational reality?" he asked.
The megachurch pastor says he'll be raising awareness about the perversion of Fifty Shades of Grey by baptizing copies of the book at locations in Dallas, Miami, Florida and London, England.
"The sad thing is that so many have fallen prey to what that book represents and have missed out on the truth that God has a better way and purpose for them. By baptizing the fantasy of that book and raising to life the reality of God's plan, I want to show people that it comes down to one thing fantasy vs. reality!" he continued.
Publicity stunt. I swear I only hear about this garbage in the context of some protest or indignation. It’s easy to ignore otherwise.
Sorry. I have a bigger issue with him using a sacrament/ordinance intended for God's people than pagans reading this filth.
Baptise it? The Bible mentions several different types of baptism.
This calls for the Baptism of Fire.

Well, at least it will be slightly better PR than a book burning.
Hopefully he baptizes them via full immersion, and holds them underwater until they turn into pulp.
Turning a teaching sacrament into the relative equivalent of ‘voodoo?’
Study....teach.

That Beauty and the Beast image made me laugh more than it should have.
Thank you.
You are welcome!
There are many Great Memes out there lampooning it 50 Shades of Grey Memes: https://www.google.com/search?q=50+shades+of+grey+meme
What does it say about our culture that 50shades is expected to groww half what Sniper grossed on its opening day. And Selma grossed less than 5% of Sniper. In Atlanta I went to megaplexes in mostly Black areas and the number of Black viewers in the Selma theater were under 20 at 7 pm show on 1 screen. The number of Blacks in Sniper 2 weeks in a row at 7 pm was over 200 on each of 3 concurrent screens. And Atlanta (elite) pride themselves on their role in Civil Rights as if Atlanta is more important than Selma, AL or Parks in MS.
It’s not gonna make the book clean, it’s just gonna make the water dirty.
Is it wrong that this one made me laugh?
Nope!
Here is another.
Giving the books more publicity, huh, Rev?
Pouring water on them is not baptizing them. This symbolizes the trashing of Christianity and replacing it with the new morality.
Silly pastor, he needs to use Expelliarmus, not Baptism.
Alot of Christians look at baptism as something more than an act of obediance and what he is doing is sacriglious.

"Christian Post", so I assume they have some idea what baptism is. So it's not misreporting.
The mind boggles. Who thought this was a good idea?

Being baptised into identification with Christ's death is a pretty dire and portentious thing, if you think about it. It ought not to be made light of or abused.

Is Young a Southron Baptist?
