Has anyone else heard of "Women's Christmas"??

From an article titled "8 Quirky Ways Epiphany Is Celebrated Around the World":

1) “Women’s Christmas”

Also known as “Little Christmas,” in Ireland Epiphany is a day that women take off from work to rest and celebrate for themselves after all the work of the Christmas holidays. Women gather together in pubs without men for special meals and wine (in commemoration of the Wedding at Cana miracle, of course!). Women also receive gifts from their children and grandchildren. (How do we bring this tradition to more places??)

Haven’t heard of it & don’t need it. My sex doesn’t make me a special snowflake in need of my own separate Christmas.

You can post that whole article here, though, in case someone does want to read it.

An entire day? Free from domestic labor? For women? That’s just wrong.

Aren’t shoes required in pubs? And you shouldn’t be drinking while pregnant. What are these women thinking?

No, but hubby gets a nice day off and a back rub after he takes down the Christmas stuff.

Why does he do it? Because he finds my tastes, (small tree, small Nativity, wreath, table center pieces, up and down in under a half hour) a bit minimalistic. I help to put it up but taking it down is all his.

Mine is pretty good about putting up/taking down decorations, because he loves Christmas, especially the decorations.

But choosing, buying, wrapping presents? Not so much. It wouldn’t get done if I didn’t do it all.

I could use that ‘Women’s Christmas’ about now ;-)

Gifts are my department. Of course I shop for them year around so by the time Christmas arrives they are ready to be slipped in gift bags and handed out.

If I haven't got your Christmas gift by September you must be new on the list. :)

A number of the Christmas celebrations described on that site involve jumping into icy water, sometimes to retrieve a cross. I’ve never heard of that before. Thank God its not part of my tradition or else I would have been dead of a heart attack years ago.

The way I heard “Women’s Christmas” explained by an Irish man, it more resembles our Mother’s Day. It is a day of rest and relaxation in gratitude for everything women do to make Christmas “happen” for the rest of the family.
I think it’s a great idea.

Well, the thing is, in our house, I'm not the only one who makes Christmas happen. I do the cooking, I decorate the tree, and I wrap the gifts. My husband hauls the (artificial) tree and the rest of the decorations out of the basement, replaces lights that aren't working, etc. And he earns the money that buys the decorations and the gifts.

So if we're going to do a Christmas for women, we have to do one for men, too. Oh, wait...
