The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not mans standard.
She's dead according to Scripture, when it says all... all must die.
You have been referenced the same Scripture (Hebrews 9) twice and choose to ignore it! Was Mary a person?
So, I repeat myself...
Hebrews 9: 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
Church? As defined by Rome? No. I assemble with others of the ekklesia. Those called out by God to be His.
>>If you do go to Church did you hear that much scripture?<<
Hear it? We study it in depth searching it daily to make sure that what we believe aligns with what the apostles taught.
I hate to break it to y'all, but when you post on an OPEN forum thread, anyone has the right to respond to you back. The solution is ...don't post comments on an open forum thread! If reading Elsie's replies gets yer knickers in such a knot, then DON'T read them! Skip right on by! Easy as pie!
The problem with that is you are not working because of your love of God...you are working to earn your Salvation.
That's like the difference between doing something for your Mom and Dad so they might give you some dough versus doing a good deed for them just to say "I love you."
Your Salvation is a free gift...paid for on Calvary.
Do you do good works because you want something...or because of your profound love of God?
I know you TC...I think I know what you are saying.
I think you do good works because you are saying to God..."I love you."
God bless and keep you and everyone you love.
The primary subject was prayer directed towards "Mary".
Marialis Cultus from the Vatican...
not that that source sways me as for the information and claims discussed there in toto, for the RCC can be wrong about much, even as also that source itself can be generally correct enough about many things.
It's like the more some things are talked about --- the more peculiarities creep in --- to then become in end result significant departure from Scripture and earliest traditions both.
One way that occurred, unfolding slowly, full centuries after the original Apostles and the 1st generation witnesses to those Apostles had then died --- was the door was opened to allow in claims as towards what transpires in spiritual realms, which descriptions and theological details for first arose from within Gnostic sources...this sort of thing having had occurred perhaps unwittingly so. As something of an aside here, this additional 'explanation' of how the realm of spirit functions. A.W. Tozer on How to Try the Spirits appears to me to be theologically sound.
Returning more squarely towards prayer directed towards "Mary" herself, James White asks the question "Mary, another Redeemer?" referenced & briefly discussed under heading of Marian dogmas began with fiction and Gnostic accounts
How many names are there, under by which one may be saved?
According to Scripture, the Apostle Peter said that there is only One name... (Acts 4:12)
Of possible further interest --->https://bible.org/article touches upon some of the names which have been used for God (the Father) dating back 5000 years or so when referencing there forms of 'El' which can be traced that many years back to ancient Akkadian sources (among the oldest writings known to man). Perhaps it stands to recall here, that Abram was called out from (the lands of) Ur of the Chaldees?
Does the Lord our God change -- or is He instead, in His fundamental nature unchanging/immutable?
Are we (Christians) sons and daughters of Abraham by faith whom through Christ's own propitiatory sacrifice can now, enable us by spirit of adoption cry unto God -- Abba, Father? (Romans 8:15) indicates "yes".
Yes we can be (are called in this way to be) not by our own strength, but by Spirit -- even the Spirit which He Himself sends, which can and will lead us to all truth and righteousness (John 16:15)
now you've done it...pointed out that we will get to drink wine in Heaven...there are protestant denominations who won't even use real wine, just grape juice, in their services...whatever will they do????
Find any scripture that calls Sunday the Lord’s day. Then study the number of times “day of the Lord” is used.
I forgive you...can't you forgive me?
then hows about I take up the cause with you and show up on your threads whenever you appear and just make off the wall disparaging remarks about your faith, opinions remarks.
How about we do that for a while and see how long a Catholic will be allowed to pull the same crap that cut and paste looney tune does.
I’m sure you are going to really dig getting to know me.
For the Greater Glory of God
Nope. Second commandment.
Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
In all seriousness, you don't really think having selected words or phrases that are found in the Bible - though they could be found in many other writings, too - is in any way a substitute for studying and reading the Bible, do you? This is FAR different than a non-Catholic sermon where entire CHAPTERS and BOOKS are studied word for word and doctrines taught and explained from the very word of God. Not that long ago, most Catholic churches didn't even HAVE Bibles available to their parishoners and personal Bible study was looked down on. I'd be careful in comparing apples and oranges, if I were you.
Not sure whose spirit you are filled with...but it is not the Holy Spirit I know.
it is really a lot of fun!! Because the Catholic church is 100% correct, it is very entertaining to watch people and organizations who sprang out of the woodwork of frustration, try to discredit 1,600 years of truth....
Worldwide Church of God; this smart phone is annoying when it modifies words and I don’t catch them.
Do you not believe that the saints in heaven, including Mary, will greet the chosen at the 2nd coming of Our Lord Jesus?
We had a Catholic couple "sit in" one time and they were shocked.
You got the wrong guy.
It’s is not me that needs to forgive you it’s Him.
Hey look the Exam of Conscience over and if any fit then make the Act of Contrition and if you are of contrite heart you sins will be forgiven by Christ not me.
The three things for proper contrition:
1) a thorough Examination of Conscience,
2) sorrow for having offended the Lord,
3) a firm purpose of amendment that you will try to avoid that sin.
plus you pray the Act of Contrition:
Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee. And I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen
For the Greater Glory of God
Too many graven images in the pagan world the Catholic Church was trying to bring into the fold...like the worship of Diana, Astarte, Semiramis, Athena.
If you want to find holes in the Catholic faith, try to reconcile it to Messianic Judaism and the Old Testament.
The thing about some Catholics (certainly not all) is that they put their Church ahead of Christ.
That's when it becomes an evil cult.
Good Catholics direct their attention to the Trinity. Roman pagans direct their attention to the Queen of Heaven.
And you can identify them by their angry spirit.
