The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not mans standard.
I wasn’t referring to you.
You are displaying more of the fruit of the Spirit than you are aware then.
R2z....
I’ll try to remember that.
“Nope. Were not all protestants.”
Accept sola fide? Accept sola scriptura? Then you are a Protestant.
“As I have repeatedly affirmed, words have meanings. The protest group was specific. They only gave rise to a split. Those who arose later had nothing to do with that split.”
False. What you are claiming is denied by the Protestants themselves in their own writings, charters, confessions, books, conventions, TV shows, etc. The “restorationist” idea that some Protestants are not Protestants is just nonsense.
“And we all dont have the same doctrine.”
So you reject sola scriptura and sola fide?
“Doctrinal distinctives are probably the major reason for different denominations.”
Perhaps, but Protestants all adhere to sola scriptura or sola fide or both.
“It rankled me as a military chaplain when higher-ups grouped certain sects into the Protestant camp simply because they werent Catholic.”
That’s not why they did it. Are you a Mormon? No. Buddhist. No. Hindu? No. Muslim? No. But a Protestant is a Protestant.
“It became clear to me at that time that we were all more understood by our differences, and that some were entirely different religions.”
And Protestants are still Protestants.
“I have a careers worth of experience in dealing with these different denominations. No one can convince me of their being in the same camp.”
But they are. It has nothing to do with you being convinced.
Uncle Si doesn’t really look like a duck.
And a duck decoy doesn’t walk like a duck.
“No, I know Christian culture and its diversity.”
If you did, then you would know the “language”. Your own words contradict you.
“Ive experienced it firsthand in a way that most havent.”
It doesn’t matter.
“You arent the first or the only to claim exclusive knowledge.”
I’m not claiming “exclusive knowledge.”
“Apology accepted.”
None was offered for I did absolutely nothing wrong.
But they aren't, and you are simply wrong.
We do not have the same doctrine, and targeting only sola scriptura and sola fide means you have somehow left out 3 of the solas.
1. Sola scriptura: Scripture alone
2. Sola fide: faith alone
3. Sola gratia: grace alone
4. Solo Christo: Christ alone
5. Soli Deo gloria: to the glory of God alone
And since Catholics subscribe to 3, 4, and 5 (and probably 2), that means Catholics are Protestants, too.
Wonderful. :>)
So, this decoy you have walks around on shore, quacks with the other ducks, walks into the water with them and swims around.
Duck Dynasty step aside: Resetto is gonna be a multi-millionaire and have his own TV show. :>)
“Well, if a Catholic can get to define Protestantism for Protestants, then Protestants can get to define Catholicism for Catholics.”
No. For two reasons:
1) Only the orthodox can make definitions. Hence Protestants cannot.
2) Protestants defined themselves in the 16th century with their doctrines - defended here by Protestants all the time.
“Otherwise, Catholics are operating on a double standard, which I see is really not very unusual.”
No, we simply operate on one standard: Truth is truth.
“You’re telling him to stop making things personal after you just told him that you wanted him dead?”
Show me EXACTLY WHERE I EVER SAID I WANTED HIM DEAD. Show me.
“How much more personal does it get?”
Apparently personal enough for you to falsely claim I wanted someone dead when I did now such thing.
“But they aren’t,”
They are.
“and you are simply wrong.”
Not even close.
“We do not have the same doctrine, and targeting only sola scriptura and sola fide means you have somehow left out 3 of the solas.”
It doesn’t matter - since only those two are peculiar to Protestants.
“And since Catholics subscribe to 3, 4, and 5 (and probably 2), that means Catholics are Protestants, too.”
Nope. And even you now are saying that I was right by showing that only sola fide and sola scriptura are peculiarly Protestant.
I’ll leave you to play your word games with God.
So, what about those Methodists and their quadrilateral: scripture, tradition, reason, experience?
I understand you to be saying that Roman Catholics do not believe that a saved Catholic has to be a believer. If you are not saying that, then you affirm ‘sola fide’.
I think we are approaching lockdown on this masterpiece. What do you think, mom?
You don’t get away without explaining that one....4 seasons.
