Moralistic Therapeutic Deism is a false religion created by and for members of the most rich, catered, defensive, politically-correct, over-protected, over-nurtured, over-fed society the world has ever known, and the fact that it uses the name Jesus and various select Christian buzzwords allows it to be passed off as Christianity.

Would would it look like of Satan took over a city? According to Donald Barnhouse:
“There would be white picket fences. The children would be clean-cut. Everyone would walk around saying nice things to each other. There would be no cussing. No spitting. No bars. No nightclubs. And everyone would go to church twice on Sunday, have their Bibles open, and Christ would not preached.”
That’s the American Church today.
Great article.
Sadly, it aptly describes much of post-Vatican 2 Catholicism.
Is this not the religion the media keeps pushing the Pope to endorse, complete with an all loving God approving of abortion and homosexual marriage?
Catholics need to get back in the confessionals... when we contemplate our sins and how we have hurt God and others it helps put things back in their right place including a reminder that we are on Earth to serve and glorify God.
Bad guitar music, hugging and watered down homilies don’t stand a chance against the grace and love imparted by Catholicism’s most overlooked and often abandoned sacrament.
Without a pure, consistent confession of the Faith, it will devolve into meaningless pap. The Church is subject to enemies both within and with out, while being built from Above through the Word of Christ. A few passages from Holy Scripture related to the speech and conduct of Christians that are of a more substantive nature:
“But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” -Matt. 12:36-37
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. -Eph. 4:29
Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God. -1 Peter 4:11a

Amen.
When I went back to the tradtitional Latin Mass, I was sturck that the Confiteor is said three times, once by the priest and twice by the altar boys - that’s three times in each Mass that we contemplate our sins and ask forgiveness.
Contrast this with the “penitential rite” in the Novus Ordo, which often skips the Confiteor for some quick acknowledgement that does not allow any tiime for contemplation.
Your are 100% correct.
Nothing wrong with daily Mass either.
If we REALLY believed that the priest has the authority to say the words to change bread and wine into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus, and we are honored to be able to take it in at Holy Communion WHY wouldn't we go to DAILY Mass? I asked myself that some years ago.
Now I go to daily Mass and Holy Communion as daily Mass keeps me VERY in touch with Our Lord. So, I end up going to the Sacrament of Confession once a month, as least. We receive much grace from the Sacraments. I will always need God's grace. Always.
God bless you and yours.
If I am visiting a church, there are three things I look for:
1) Is Scripture cited and examined?
2) Is Christ’s death and resurrection for the atonement of our sins preached?
3) Is the service in praise of God or of men?
It really does not take long to spot the “good” churches from the phonies. They are usually man-centered, never discuss sin much less salvation from it and rarely say anything about Scripture besides pulling verses haphazardly to make an incorrect point.
Our Holy Spirit gives us a good radar system if we are willing to use it.
Although the “I confess to Amighty God”...........prayer at the start of each mass by the present priest my parish has now is a reminder of the need to not be afraid to go to confession.
Those are good rules of thumb. I tend not to “church shop” as it were, but am very much aware of the mush out there. In fact, truth be told, the fight against this “MTD” is one I must engage against my own flesh, for it is constantly inclined to disregard and despise the First Commandment.
Starting with me!
