I tell my classes, "If you plan to lie about it, then you know it's wrong."
I know there is certain element that belittles the use of feelings. But we have instincts just like animals do. We sense danger, we need to follow that flee instinct. I used this to empower kids, not just frighten them into behaving. To ward off peer pressure they need to be empowered and they need to know that the Church has their back.
Sometimes you wonder if the little faces looking at you are getting it. I remember telling them about how the Blessed Mother is a legendary interventionist.
For example, if they are in a situation that they need help to get out of, call on her. I figure most blew it off, some on here will raise a fit over it.
Well months later a youngster came to me and asked me if I remembered what I told them about the Blessed Mother? She then went on to explain that she was in a situation that could have become very serious. She saw no way to get out and not have her friends think she was not cool. We all know that it is very important for JR. High kids to not get singled out for any reason. So she did what I told her and out of the clear blue sky, her older brother drove up. He did not even live in that town anymore. He had no way of knowing why he was there. She didn't even tell him he had saved her from a situation. She jumped in the car.
I don't believe in coincidences!
The good Monsignor’s list (virtually every item on it!) pretty well defines Ophonybama, his posse, LIEberals in general and most politicians, doesn’t it?
Not to mention the Democrat playbook!
Is it 2017, yet?
My mother keeps saying that, too!
Sometimes (often ...) children are looking to excuse themselves and avoid saying, "I knew X was wrong, but I did it anyway." The more tools we can give their consciences - to remind them that, yes, they really do know this is wrong - the more likely they are to make a right choice when it's time.
You use whatever you have in your tool box.
Great story....she didn’t have to walk home with those questionable and taunting “so called” friends.
Or RCIA teachers.
Compare the democrat party platform to the Ten Commandments ...
Wow, is that a good article! He includes sins that many of us engage in all the time while not even thinking about it. Thanks for posting!
Yes, that's true. I keep it in mind when my own children are that age.
Exactly. Also I think it also taught her, that she is not alone. The peer pressure they face these days is just horrendous. The parents are not always able to be engaged. It’s been 10 years and I when I get back home. I still see some of them and that makes me happy. They mostly don’t remember me, but I remember them. When I seem them at Mass my heart just soars.
Good Confession list as well.
people used to think I was crazy for taking on that age. Well, someone has to do it. :) I actually enjoyed them. Even the snotty brat syndrome that comes with it. Sometimes they demand to be treated as grownups and the next minute they are howling with delight over a cartoon. Strange age. But there is still an innocence at that age whether or not they choose to allow you to see it.
I have. Eye opening, isn’t it, and yet we have people who claim to be “Good Christians” and vote for Democrats?
UnFReakingbelievable!
I teach Sacrament prep for students from 4th to 8th grade, so I get ages about 9 to 15. This year they’re 8 to 12, so it’s not quite as diverse. They’ll all make their confessions this Saturday.
Do they go face to face? We generally would have a bunch of priests come so that it did not take all day.
There are a number of sins listed above, that have a qualifying word or phrase attached, such as...improper behavior, extreme, willfulness, inordinate, excessive, etc. What or who is the reference for these subjective levels? That is what I am asking
Are those with less formed/informed consciences more guilty or less, than those with better formed/informed consciences?
Not obtuse, a direct response to what you said. So no stomach ache, no sin, is correct, right?
