After his criticisms about the Synod being manipulated and censored, the Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, is continuing to raise concerns in an increasingly distressed tone about the direction the Church is taking, criticising the Pope, whilst at the same time claiming he does not wish it seem like he is speaking out against he Pope. His latest interview with Darío Menor Torres was published by Spanish religious news weekly Vida Nueva.
Many have expressed their concerns to me. At this very critical moment, there is a strong sense that the Church is like a ship without a helm, whatever the reason for this may be; now, it is more important than ever to examine our faith, have a healthy spiritual leader and give powerful witness to the faith.
I fully respect the Petrine ministry and I do not wish it to seem like I am speaking out against the Pope. I would like to be a master of the faith, with all my weaknesses, telling a truth that many currently perceive. They are feeling a bit sea sick because they feel the Churchs ship has lost its bearings. We need to set aside the reason for this disorientation because we have not lost our bearings. We have the enduring tradition of the Church, its teachings, the liturgy, its morality. The catechism remains the same.
The Pope rightly speaks of the need to go out to the peripheries, the Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura said. The people have responded very warmly to this. But we cannot go to the peripheries empty-handed. We go with the Word of God, with the Sacraments, with the virtuous life of the Holy Spirit. I am not saying the Pope does this, but there is a risk of the encounter with culture being misinterpreted. Faith cannot adapt to culture but , must call to it to convert. We are a counter-cultural movement, not a popular one.
Cardinal Burke knows what he is talking about. Pay attention, Catholics!

BTTT!
Cardinal Burke Ping!
Go read the “Credo” and the Catholic Catechism- there you will find the official beliefs of the Catholic faith based on Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and Divine Revelation.
I think Pope Francis is incapable of the German mind of scholarship, rigor, and discipline. Benedict XVI is the theological Einstein of our times where he speaks with mathematical clarity.
Francis, coming from a South American culture is used to a popular loose “soccer” mentality dialect and this is what’s causing much of the consternation requiring later Vatican interpretations and clarifications.
Just need to hit the beads on this.
The European culture that seems to be repudiating Christianity.
As a side note, Cardinal Burke also wrote another excellent book a couple years ago about the Holy Eucharist, based on the writings of two prior popes (Pope John Paul II, and Pope Benedict XVI), which some here may not have had a chance to read yet, and may want to take a look at:
Makes sense. Thanks!
BINGO!!! My father would call it “diarrhea of the mouth”.
The Pope is a left-wing Jesuit who, even as bishop, was given to strange remarks that made it sound as if the Faith and its teachings were up for grabs in his mind, and who was also noted for his overt, expressed hostility to “conservatives,” whether in doctrinal or liturgical matters.
I also suspect that he’s nowhere near as smart as either of his immediate predecessors, and he’s certainly not well-spoken. So in addition to his fundamentally confusing attitudes, he has a confusing way of expressing them.
Don’t forget that when Benedict was elected, Bergoglio was the second and very close runner up. This means that the elderly liberals and leftists who supported him (and probably will be too old to vote at the next consistory) are seizing their moment and taking advantage of his blundering if not actually ill-intentioned statements and behavior to sweep the Church with their positions.
Cdl Burke is speaking out not only against some of the Pope’s weirder ideas, but against the entire cabal that supports him and has been empowered by him.
I pray for Cardinal Burke and the Catholic church.
I love that comment: need to hit the beads. Lol, I’m going to steal it, despite the Seventh Commandment!
The doctor said, "I've got this one, and I'll prove it. In Genesis it says that when God created Eve he did so by taking a rib from Adam. Now that's a surgical procedure, so clearly medicine is the oldest profession."
The architect then said, "Sorry, I've got you beat on this. Earlier in Genesis it says that 'in the beginning' God created order from chaos. So clearly Architecture is the oldest profession."
Both men then looked over to Cardinal Kasper who sported a broad smile. "Well then man, what say you?" They demanded.
"You have proven that mine, a modern theologian, is the oldest profession."
Both men looked perplexed, so the Cardinal continued;
"Who created the chaos?"
(and don't forget the prayer to St. Michael)
Good one!
:)
But that was back in the days before the 24-hour cable news cycle and before so many in the media were willing to work toward destroying the Church.
Yes, Miss M, your nun was a meanie. I never got slapped either, although, given my problems with focusing on almost anything in class, I now admire the sisters’ restraint.
I know it is distressing, but Jesus has promised us that the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Church. Do not despair, my FRiend.
