The University of Notre Dame will provide for contraceptives and abortifacient drugs in its student health-care program, the National Catholic Register reports.
Notre Dame had joined other Catholic institutions in filing suit against the contraceptive mandate in the federal health-care program. In that lawsuit, Notre Dame said that the mandate would "require Notre Dame to commit scandal." But after preliminary court rulings against the university-- which Notre Dame is now appealing-- the university administration has chosen to cover contraceptive costs.

no longer a Roman Catholic college (as was obvious when it rushed to give an honorary doctorate to YKWho)
Alan Keyes did his best to stop ND from being totally evil
Sad but not surprising.
It is tragic to watch a Catholic school lose its faith.
“But we beat Michigan in football.”
Catholics have always historically voted Democrat, with only a few exceptions.
I’m not surprised that in the era of the unapologetically Leftist Pope, Notre Dame would abandon one of the few decent tenets of the Vatican II Church which distinguished them from other Democrats.

Totally agree.
ND and Georgetown are competing to see which can sink into sleaze the fastest.
“In exchange, Notre Dame students will receive more money in federal student aid, as well as a grant to renovate the stadium.”
ND didn’t give in to the pressure. ND did it enthusiastically.
The University of Apostasy, home of the Fighting Apostates.
My daughters went to a Catholic HS, and when looking into colleges I remember reading something about the student body of Notre Dame being far more devout and religious than the faculty. And, this was some time ago, so, not surprised by this development, though, a bit saddened.
Does the Pope have any influence over these colleges?
ND hasn’t been a catholic university since it hosted a guest speaker who supports letting a baby born during a failed abortion to die of neglect afterwards.
If they can honor murderers, they can do anything else. What difference, at this point, does it make?
ND can join the no longer Christian Ivy League schools.
“the student body of Notre Dame being far more devout and religious than the faculty”
This is exactly what I saw, because of the students it was a very Catholic place up to the last time I was there about 3 years ago. Students weren’t quite up the Franciscan University Steubenville devout but closer than many on FR know.
The students were Catholic; the Brothers of the Holy Cross, the faculty and administration were liberals.
I would expect all that to change because faithful Catholic parents have started refusing to send their kids there.
Giving unto Caesar that which belongs to God.
Cowards.
Notre Dame ceased any Catholic Church Affiliation long ago.
The alums of this university could put an end to this madness immediately. . . unless they are just as bad as the administration.
“Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and unto God the things that are God’s.” The lives of innocent babies are God’s, and it is not proper for a Catholic university to turn away from God to satisfy a mere government (and especially not a satanic once such as Obama’s).
