Explaining the Heresy of Catholicism (John MacArthur)
Grace To You ^ | Pastor John MacArthur

Posted on 05/26/2014 4:13:56 PM PDT by Dr. Thorne

Praying to Mary, celebrating the Mass, venerating the Pope—you won’t find those doctrines in the Bible. And yet more than one billion Roman Catholics throughout the world follow such practices in line with the official teaching of the Roman Catholic Church.

With that many Catholics around the globe, it’s likely you know some of them as relatives, friends, neighbors, or co-workers. Find out what they don’t know—the origin and error of Catholic doctrine—so you can help the Catholics you know out of the darkness and into the light.

But the Church does not teach this.

apparently it does based on the early church fathers which the catholic church claims as tradition. pope john paul II believed this also. so are we now saying the Pope's teachings are wrong??

The teaching of universal salvation was rejected, and if any pope taught universal salvation, that pope was and is wrong.

Bible study does NOT exist in the Catholic Church.

Protestantism must be like Goebbels: "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."

You, Boanarges, prove a Nazi correct.

I was a Catholic for 50 years, until I began to read and study my Bible. That intense study led me away from all religion and now empowered by the Holy Spirit I now worship Christ in total freedom

you are still a Catholic, not a very good one, but a Catholic nevertheless. If everyone decided go go out on their own, we would have an even worse mess then we do now with thousands of protestant "denominations"

If this wasn't a holiday then right now I'd be at our local Bible study. We (a group of folks from our small Catholic parish) are going through Exodus currently. It is very interesting -- lots of fun and informative.

So since there is no Bible Study tonight, I'm just sitting here drinking a Steve McQueen and browsing on FR.

"Bible study does NOT exist in the Catholic Church."

I cannot fully understand why someone would make a such a sweeping, absurd, and so easily disproven statement with such an air of authority.

My parish hosts a Bible study every Friday and every Sunday.

Protestantism= Confess with your lips that Jesus is the Christ, Song of God, and his death on the cross was payment for your sins and you shall be saved.

Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven Matthew 10:32

If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Has He drawn you away from the counterfeit gregorian calendar (named for a pope for those hateful proud protestants out there who follow it ‘religiousy’) and the man made holy days like he has for me?

True freedom and liberty He gives away from churchianity is so needed for those bent on defending their churches’ faiths and traditions...

The mother/daughter fights are some of the ugliest fights one can witness...

A whole lot of links, but not so much scripture. If anyone wanted to enlist in your diatribe, the would have bought your book. You do not back anything with scripture, which is a sure sign of the antichrist.

Remember all, ‘catholic church’ is all of us, the universal christians, not the roman catholic church, which is mired in the sin of idolatry among others.

Of course, we are all sinners until his return, or until we are called home.

Protestantism has rewritten that Romans into "whatever you believe is true, is true!"

But then, bastardization of truth is Protestantism's speciality.

The teaching of universal salvation was rejected, and if any pope taught universal salvation, that pope was and is wrong.

So then how should we believe anything else the Pope is saying if he has blown this idea?

Maybe if more Catholics did read the Bible as you incorrectly believe, they would stop worshiping the ground the Pope walks on. Catholics WROTE the bible that you describe....even the parts that Luther took out...we know what's in it and carried it to you through the ages, copying it BY HAND for a couple of thousand years.....withyout Catholics, you would have no idea of who Christ was nor the story of His life, nor His teachings.....there was no one else around to write it all down....the Catholic church did and you have them to thank...

This concept has been so discredited so many times.

Since there are so many articles posted here arguing that only Catholic doctrine is correct, and then many articles like those posted today that criticize Protestants, it’s hard to understand why there are posters here who object to the posting of any articles critical of Catholicism. The religion moderator has made clear that no particular Christian belief is held or to be favored here.

Just on the matter of Mary, it was sad to see how the Pope prayed to her exactly as a Christian would to God Himself. From what I see, Catholics overlook this because they believe since they believe idolatry is wrong that they can’t be doing it, and that it’s what God wants because their leadership, who do God’s will, has said so, so it isn’t idolatry. But it all comes down to their leadership clearly abusing their authority to institute idolatry. Moses was denied entry into the Promised Land because he brought water from a rock by hitting a stone (still a miracle) rather than speaking to it, because God wanted all (CONT’D)

My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Magníficat ánima mea Dóminum,
et exsultávit spíritus meus
in Deo salvatóre meo,
quia respéxit humilitátem
ancíllæ suæ.

Ecce enim ex hoc beátam
me dicent omnes generatiónes,
quia fecit mihi magna,
qui potens est,
et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericórdia eius in progénies
et progénies timéntibus eum.
Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo,
dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui;
depósuit poténtes de sede
et exaltávit húmiles.
Esuriéntes implévit bonis
et dívites dimísit inánes.
Suscépit Ísrael púerum suum,
recordátus misericórdiæ,
sicut locútus est ad patres nostros,
Ábraham et sémini eius in sæcula.

Glória Patri et Fílio
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio,
et nunc et semper,
et in sæcula sæculórum.

Amen.

She became the Mother of God, in which work so many and such great good things are bestowed on her as pass man’s understanding. For on this there follows all honor, all blessedness, and her unique place in the whole of mankind, among which she has no equal, namely, that she had a child by the Father in heaven, and such a Child . . . Hence men have crowded all her glory into a single word, calling her the Mother of God . . . None can say of her nor announce to her greater things, even though he had as many tongues as the earth possesses flowers and blades of grass: the sky, stars; and the sea, grains of sand. It needs to be pondered in the heart what it means to be the Mother of God.

(Commentary on the Magnificat, 1521; in Luther’s Works, Pelikan et al, vol. 21, 326)

Test it against doctrine and scripture of course.

So what you're saying, if I'm reading this correctly, is that the pope, the vicar of Christ, can make an error in doctrine????

Ephesians 2:5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved.

Acts 15:11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are."

1 Peter 1:5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time

I have not posted anything remotely anti-Catholic and would appreciate a little respect in turn.
