This has popped up on Facebook in several places, so it seems worth noting.
Several bloggers have gotten emails announcing this event for next week, and Women of Grace has details:
The Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club is hosting a black mass on May 12 to be staged by The Satanic Temple and which will include a consecrated host.
According to a press release from The Satanic Temple, they plan on presenting the black mass at the Queens Head Pub in Memorial Hall, 45 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA along with an academic narration that explores the rituals unique history and practice.
Priya Dua, of The Satanic Temples Public Relations office confirmed to us in an e-mail that Yes, there will be a consecrated host at the black mass.
This sounds, frankly, incredible. If it’s true, this is horrifying.
If it’s true.
The only source for this, right now, is The Satanic Temple, through its emails and flyers that have been posted around Harvard.
I could find no listing online for the “Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club” and the website for the Harvard Extension School lists nothing about this event or the “Cultural Studies Club.”
The website for the Queens Head Pub, likewise, lists nothing about this event. The pub, in fact, says it’s closed for the summer.
According to the report at Women of Grace, no one at Harvard has responded to requests for an interview about this, let alone confirmed it.
Again, the only confirmation comes from one source: the “Public Relations Office” of The Satanic Temple.
FWIW, The Satanic Temple is reportedly the same operation involved in erecting that statue of Satan in Oklahoma.
Add it all up, and I’d take all this with a grain of salt until Harvard or a second source can confirm that this event is real.
Meantime: I see my pal Elizabeth Scalia is having similar thoughts.
Stay tuned.
9: 45 am UPDATE: The Harvard Extension School says on its Facebook page, “We are looking into this and will share more information as we have it.”
11:15 am UPDATE: The Harvard Extension School has issued a statement. Tellingly, the school does not mention that the “controversial student event” includes a Satanic ritual that mimics and mocks a sacred liturgy, the Catholic Mass. How brave of them.
An independent student organization, the Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club, plans to host a controversial student event.
Students at Harvard Extension School, like students at colleges across the nation, organize and operate a number of independent student organizations, representing a wide range of student interests.
Harvard Extension School does not endorse the views or activities of any independent student organization. But we do support the rights of our students and faculty to speak and assemble freely.
In this case, we understand that this independent student organization, the Cultural Studies Club, is hosting a series of eventsincluding a Shinto tea ceremony, a Shaker exhibition, and a Buddhist presentation on meditationas part of a student-led effort to explore different cultures.
Media inquiries should be directed to Jeff Neal, jeff_neal@harvard.edu, in the Harvard University Public Affairs and Communications Office.
“Does Harvard approve flushing the Koran or spitting...”
Why is that relevant?
Harvard doesn't approve of the current exercise, either. Did you actually read what you posted?
“Harvard Extension School does not endorse the views or activities of any independent student organization. But we do support the rights of our students and faculty to speak and assemble freely.”
The old, “I may disagree with you, but I'll fight for your right to say it” attitude that is sadly lacking nowadays.

Why would you withhold money from Harvard because a student organization at the Harvard Extension school did something that offends?

Do you believe that Jesus could not have called ten thousand angels to release Him from the cross if it was His will for them to do so? He gave His life willingly in sacrifice for all our sins. He DID let Himself be killed. Jesus said:
No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father. (John 10:18)
The other point is that Jesus is now glorified at the right hand of the Father and there is no need for Him to be "desecrated" nor ever sacrificed again - illegitimately or otherwise. The request to be reasonable is simply to belay the hysteria some Catholics exhibit over the very idea that Jesus could be spitefully desecrated through the use of a "Jesus-containing" consecrated host. That's JUST the reaction Christian-hating Satanists delight in! Don't give it to them.
It works, apparently.
“...indirectly acknowledging the real presence...”
Your statement is 100% accurate and sacred scripture tells us the exact same thing - that Satan believes in Jesus.
James 2:19 Thou believist that there is one God. Thou dost well:the devils also believe.
Sounds like the Satanists are living in some folks heads rent free. Certainly seems to be getting crowded up there!
We are hosting a reenactment of a historical event known as a Black Mass.snip

"Historical" event? Explore different cultures? How selective. WWII is an historical event, not a black mass. That would fall into the category of worship. This is nothing more than an excuse to open a door to evil on an elitist campus.
Please excuse me if I come across as demanding, but where, specifically, is the "word" that a consecrated host will not be used during this filth?
It distresses me greatly that there may even be the possibility of one being there. I would like assurance there is not.
Thank you for that, MeshugeMikey.
So it seems they are saying themselves they will not be using a consecrated host.
Now of course, I have to take the word of a bunch of Satanists. < sigh >
Oh well, everything is ultimately in God’s Hands anyway. I guess this is another time where I am led to prayer.
Sorry for any inconvenience Rita.
I guess she showed him!
Good call, Alex.
They can. They're called mystics and down through the centuries they are known for their ability to see the supernatural. Some of them, like Therese Neumann, and Marthe Robin to name two modern examples, survived solely on the Blessed Sacrament as a source of physical nourishment. That is to say they took no other food.
There are others, of course, such as St. Padre Pio and their stories are readily available.
There are Satanic counterfeits for those whom God has endowed with mystical gifts and those mentioned in a previous post are a good example.
When I was active duty, satanism was always denied support by the military chaplaincy and commanders because it is not a religion in its own right but is based on demeaning another religion....Christianity.
That is why is was necessary, if this is actually a report of an event that is truly planned at harvard, for these satanists to steal a consecrated host from some legitimate Christian church.
Their purpose is to desecrate and demean the body of Christ. IOW, they are not a religion in their own right, but based on demeaning an existing religion.
They are Christ/Christian haters acting out their hate.
We are hosting a reenactment of a historical event known as a Black Mass. The performance is designed to be educational and is preceded by a lecture that provides the history, context, and origin of the Black Mass. While a piece of bread is used in the reenactment, the performance unequivocally does not include a consecrated host. Our purpose is not to denigrate any religion or faith, which would be repugnant to our educational purposes, but instead to learn and experience the history of different cultural practices.
As I commented above, a black mass is not a "historical" event. Not buying their explanation.
There is no way that they can host a group whose sole purpose is to demean another religion.
To use any bread at all is to re-enact their demeaning hatred of Christian practice in the Christian eucharist.
God watches and waits..!
Vengence is IMine,, sayeth the Lord
these pukes will discover this sooner or later
They are far too arrogant to note the transparently stupid language theyve used to try to cover their activity!
How is using a consecrated host NOT denigration of religion?
The “we” in “We are hosting...” is the student organization. The school has pointed out already that the Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club is an independent student organization. The student group privately went out and rented space at Memorial Hall on campus. This is space that can be rented by all comers.
The event is neither hosted nor sponsored by Harvard.
As far as I can tell, it does not appear to be a student group that is sponsored by the university, itself. The university generally, and the College, specifically, do actually support some student groups. For the College, this is usually done through the undergraduate council.
The Extension School (not to be confused with the College) also appears to support some student groups, and in fact, publishes a list of them on their website. The Cultural Studies Club is not among those mentioned.
This is a bunch of night school students looking to hype their “club,” trying to provoke outrage among hoi polloi and middle-brow bourgeoisie, as they see it. These folks live in the shadow of what many consider to be the top university in the country, or even the world, and they are third-class “citizens” therein. They are the slighted, self-conscious climbers and status-seekers who are essentially dressing up their night school education in Harvard rags.

They have said that they’re not using a consecrated host.
