There is no way that they can host a group whose sole purpose is to demean another religion.
To use any bread at all is to re-enact their demeaning hatred of Christian practice in the Christian eucharist.
The “we” in “We are hosting...” is the student organization. The school has pointed out already that the Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club is an independent student organization. The student group privately went out and rented space at Memorial Hall on campus. This is space that can be rented by all comers.
The event is neither hosted nor sponsored by Harvard.
As far as I can tell, it does not appear to be a student group that is sponsored by the university, itself. The university generally, and the College, specifically, do actually support some student groups. For the College, this is usually done through the undergraduate council.
The Extension School (not to be confused with the College) also appears to support some student groups, and in fact, publishes a list of them on their website. The Cultural Studies Club is not among those mentioned.
This is a bunch of night school students looking to hype their “club,” trying to provoke outrage among hoi polloi and middle-brow bourgeoisie, as they see it. These folks live in the shadow of what many consider to be the top university in the country, or even the world, and they are third-class “citizens” therein. They are the slighted, self-conscious climbers and status-seekers who are essentially dressing up their night school education in Harvard rags.
